If scientists could fully understand emotion in all it's facets, than it is likely that many things would change. However, whether or not that information should be completely revealed to all interested parties would indeed be a source of debate. However, it is unlikely that even if we were fully aware of the source of emotions that we would be able to manipulate and twist those emotions at will. As this would require something which is far beyond. It is also likely that such a development would come with increased laws to help make sure that the technology is not used for ill-fitting purposes. On a political scale, though, it is very difficult to tell what kind of effect this would have. Note that many politicians are already experts in terms of emotional appeal and even perhaps manipulation. The study of emotions and how they can come to affect a person is by no means a new field. In fact, it is unlikely that new information would change that much about the world, let alone that such a discovery would simply be revealed in such a manner. We have to remember that emotion is not the only way in which human beings are capable of making decisions, and even emotional appeals sometimes fall on deaf ears. Keep in mind that much of this is up to the individual and that each of our minds works in radically different ways. Even if the source of emotions could be found, it is unlikely and unrealistic to think that every person would be affected in exactly the same way.
Perhaps we can more carefully come to analyze this idea if we use an analogy. As of right now, we have polygraph technology, which, while sometimes effective, is not a full proof method of lie detection. Let us imagine that we have access to a machine which can always point out the difference between lies and truth. Could we consider that this machine would be an effective tool for society as a whole? Or would it simply present more dangers and complications than are already present with ideas of emotions, lies and truths? If we had such a machine which could always sort out the difference from lies and truths, we have to be equally careful in making sure that the machine is always right. Is it possible to have any piece of technology with works flawlessly all of the time. If such a piece of machinery existed, it would likely become highly trusted, and too much emphasis would be placed on whether or not the machine would register certain statements as lies or truths. Although such a machine does have many foreseeable benefits, there are also a great amount of risks that could be associated with the device, and it would need skilled operators as well as some sort of balance to make sure that it does not become too trusted or occasionally given a bit of doubt.
Perhaps the debate over emotion can also be analyzed in such dimensions as body language. Body language is not a common course of study simply because it becomes common sense and interpretive knowledge after a period of time how a person can read body language. Many would not be interested in taking an entire course on the subject, it is simply not an area in which most need such advanced study. While it may not seem that body language should be an entire point of study for a student, it nonetheless is another important thing to consider when we talk about the presence of emotion. Namely, we display emotion in so many ways, and body language would simply be one more element of life that would have to be removed if we were to live without emotions.
