Why Do We Hate Nicki Minaj; Is This Not How Lil' Kim Got Started?
Am I a Hypocrite If I like Lil' Kim and I Hate Nick Minaj? Aren't They One and the Same?
So why do we really hate Nicki Minaj? Some people would say that she acts weird and has this Barbie thing about her but I think she is just taking what Trina did and spin on its head and turn it upside down. Could it be that Nicki Minaj comes across as a carbon copy of a mainstream rapper, but then again who isn't doing that in this day and age? If you hate Nicki Minaj than you are a hypocrite for not hating Lil' Kim, because it is questionable if either are truly great artists or if they are not using the politics of sex to come across as being more interesting than they truly are.
The problem with being a female rapper is that while only the most intelligent and sophisticated artists are ever discovered they often devolve into a caricature of a Black woman defined through a cold, nihilistic and misandric variety of sexuality. These are women that can use a man for their own pleasure and gratification and then do away with them as though the relationships had never existed. It is sex for what sex is worth, without the consequence of a relationship through lyrics that reinforce ideas that exist in most pornographic material but are being vocalized through a woman's perspective.
All Nicki Minaj is doing is to tap into those sexual politics and articulate the angst of her generation the way that Lil' Kim did for most women that are in their thirties now. People say that only hoodrats would relate to her, but if you think about those were the same hoodrats that Lil' Kim spoke to back in the nineties. The real issue is that everyone would like for Black women to talk about something other than their sexuality and attempt to uplift each other for a change. Have we not learned that the mainstream media will never allow this to occur? Even Queen Latifah, who was the quintessential strong Black woman of the nineties plays roles that are on the level of being a "mammy" or a magical negro in most of her work, and we see the same happening with Monique. Phat Girlz was a great film with a strong message, but most people are going to remember Monique for playing your typical ghetto welfare queen, a selfish ... in Precious. Women start off strong in this industry, but they end up coming across as weaker than the women they are attempting to uplift at the end of the day ...

Post a CommentIt is a generational thing. I don't think Nicki has a psychiatric disorder though, more like she is either possessed, or under that mind control thing. Maybe she is an operative of sorts. She wasn't like that before she got signed and hooked up with Young Money, I will say that much.
Nicki Minaj may have jacked Kim's style, but I think she has better lyrics and more wit than Kim.
The problem here is not that Nikki Minaj promotes sex, as did Lil' Kim, the problem is that Nikki Minaj is a freakin' copycat of Lil Kim, and not a good one. It's one thing to be inspired by an artist, and a whole 'nother to totally jack another artist's style. Lil Kim pioneered much of what Nikki is doing these days, except for the crazy Schizoid personality disorder thing Nikki has going on. Which, I'm sorry to tell you, isn't talent at all, but rather a trait that psychiatrists get rich treating. Nikki, please get some help!!! Now, Lil Kim was vulgar, nasty and towards the end, a little weird, but she was tolerable. Nikki, with all her lyrical talent, is still annoying, and she seems to be trying too hard. As someone that grew up in the late 80's and 90's, maybe it's a generational thing, but I just don't get it. Or maybe Nikki, like other popular garbage acts (Lady Gaga, LMFAO), is just horrible...

Lil' Kim, along with Trina, Eve, Foxy Brown, and many more from back in the day (Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte...) have that something special that you cannot put a price on, and everyone can say what they want, but Nicki doesn't have that. Nicki reminds me of a drone, and she can only keep up that character thing for so long. What happened to people just being their real selves?
