Why We Need to Keep Up with Technology

Technology has greatly evolved over the past decade. The rate, at which the technology is growing, leaves many parents in the dark, as their knowledge and skills erode and become desolate. It is interesting to note that, basic computer skills, for instance, were, at one time considered vital and sellable.

Parents everywhere now face the challenge to keep up with technology due to their children's safety. Internet has become easily available and portable to just about anyone, irrespective of age, and, as if that is not enough, the materials available on line are unrestricted and inappropriate, especially to teenagers. Keeping up with the ever changing technology, will help parents guard their children from these kinds of exposure, as they guide their thinking and mold their behaviors, to be able to make right decisions in life.

Social media has taken over all forms of social interaction, without incorporating the physical aspect of it. Facebook currently has over 300 million active users, interacting and sharing personal lives. Teenagers, who are the majority of the users share just about anything and some go as far as tormenting their rivals through cyber bullying. This kind of behavior prompts parents to get to know how social media works and keep up with its development, with the purpose of protecting their children from social attacks, as well as help avert such a behavior from their own children.

The changing work environment, which is heavily driven by technology, also demands us to continuously update and improve our technical knowhow. Employers everywhere are seeking for individuals with high technical skills to increase and improve productivity in their work places. What was considered essential a few years back is now basic. Work environment is currently experiencing a phase - out of paper trail and replacing that with electronic media. Work places are also going through decentralization, as work can be carried home, or anywhere else, and also meetings can be carried out through electronic media.

Technological development have also aided in conservation of energy in our homes, as it is easier to measure and regulate the amount of energy we use in our daily basis. It has become possible to control energy in our houses using our cell phones. Security in our homes and community has also been greatly enhanced through the development of technology, as every activity is clearly captured through highly enhanced videos. All in all, the world has become a dynamic global place and the need to be dynamic in inevitable.
