Why We Should Legalize Prostitution: My List of the Social Benefits

Deneale K. Williams
One day at school, we were asked to speak argumentatively aloud with one another in the form of a debate. The class sat quietly, and no one said anything. The teacher tried to initiate a few ideas, and we would chat a little and then stop. Nothing was really happening the way the teacher had wanted, until I said:

Should we Legalize Prostitution?

The room became quiet, and everyone looked at me. I smiled, and said, "Have you ever seen the movie, the Best Little Whore House in Texas?" And still the room sat silently staring at me.

My teacher smiled and said, "What ever made you think of that for an argumentative?"

I responded, "Well, when I used to drive cabs, I drove them (prostitutes) around, and people to them. And last night I watched the Best Little Whore House in Texas, again, and thought of something things, to help, and it would benefit everyone."

My teacher told me to elaborate. So allow me to share my views with you, the reader.

If we made prostitution legal, the police might be able to focus on other crimes that are much more serious.

If we made prostitution legal, the government could tax it, and use the tax money for things to help out-like roads, and even books for children in schools.

If we made a whore house, in a place not around public schools, and in an area of our pickings, we could make it so the prostitutes are neater and cleaner. If an HIV customer wants service, there could be an HIV prostitute just for him. The prostitutes are kept healthy, and clean, and a doctor is to remain on premises, paid of course. The madam screens the customers, makes sure that they have the monies needed in advance, and any health issues that they may have is addressed. These rules and regulations are meant to protect not only the prostitute but also the customers.

If we made prostitution legal, I also feel this would make it a little safer for them, rather then being the target of an angry man, or someone who needs someone to abuse. Prostitutes are abused, and chosen specifically more often than not by criminals because they one- feel that the prostitute is not wanted or needed, and is more or less a vagrant, when the fact is- they are not all like that. And two- it will help with the issue of thinking you are committing another crime, and the desire to commit said crimes. If it is legal, then that can take away the criminal desire and need to commit more crimes.

I am not one to condone prostitution; it has been around since the dawn of man. You can read about it everywhere, through out our history. Although many teachers, instructors and historians don't like to admit that it was there, it can still be found and made known. And let us not forget, it continues world wide, to this day!

Why are they a prostitute? For some odd reason, whatever the case may be, the prostitute feels this is the only way that they can make money. Perhaps they are uneducated. Maybe their parents have had them doing this since they were little, there are dozens of reasons, and some we might not even ever guess. But as with anything, I am sure there is a reason, and an explanation as well.

Prostitutes can and do have children. They have bills just like you and I. And they consider this their job, and way to pay their bills. Now don't get me wrong, some may like this for their job, and some may literally only like doing it when money is involved. You don't know, I don't know.

But if the prostitutes would do a lot less flaunting in School area's, business area's and places that are meant to be a land mark; because things like that are not meant to be in the open, I feel they should respect that. There is such a thing as being discreet. And not just because you have to worry about the other party being a cop, or a private investigator. Not every place should be peddled for sex, not everyone wants to see it, and know that it honestly exists, or have to explain it to their children.

So in my opinion, prostitution should be legalized, and taxed and bettered for everyone involved. May I repeat again, I am not condoning anyone, and their way of life. I just feel there is a way to make it safer, and better on all parties involved. And as they often say, opinions are like "butt holes," and everyone has one. Now you've heard mine.

A "lot lizard" is a man or woman who goes to truck stops and sleeps with truck drivers who have money to pay them. They call them Lot Lizards because they go to rest areas, or any place that truckers stop to eat, shower, and sleep while over the road.

Thanks for this article; I must be the other person in the world that agrees with you! Sound reasoning and well put. I would like to see more elaboration on the benefits that taxation would bring, since money talks and is a big persuader. I also think you may have switched the meaning of the word condone with condemn - the second time you use condone doesn't make sense unless you replace it with condemn. Condone is to tolerate. Condemn is to judge.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. And why this article didnt get much more comments and feed back is because AC doesnt like me, never has and never will. They cancelled my sisters account, without reason, and I am certain the doors will be closing on me here soon too. They dont like people except for MICHY, and it is obvious she is on their pay roll. Dont believe me? Go look in the forum. Anyway, thanks for the input, and taking the time to read my work!!

I too am wondering what a lot lizard is, or is this just someone showing off? Anyway, I too read this, was shocked it was published and on the same note- am impressed. I too agree, I mean there is so much crime and crap, why not legalize it on a trial basis? Just a thought, afterall......

LOL, I am surprised that more people have not commented on this. I used to babysit for a 'lot lizard' and she paid me really good and was a great mother. Aside from the prostitute part, lol.
