Why We Love Computer Games

Why do we like computer games? Well, my first answer is quite simple; they're fun. Ever since I could comprehend what a television and a Sega Master System controller WAS, I began my journey into the gaming world. Reality gets boring after being in it for so long, so what I do to escape is enter another reality... with ninjas! So you had a hard day at work? Get on the PC and imagine that your boss is on the battlefield in Enemy Territory somewhere. Now, all you got to do is find them and unleash numerous rounds of ammunition.

Video games have enraptured vast audiences for many decades. From the early beginnings of Pong, to the advanced gameplay mechanics of new titles such as Bioshock, World in Conflict, and the upcoming shooter, Crysis. We love computer games because there is no better outlet than one you control and can immerse yourself into entirely. It's a device that lets you do things you never could in real life and it gives people a platform in which they can relate to whether their background lies in art, D&D, movies, whatever. For many, with the insurgence of popular MMO games such as World of Warcraft, for example, it gives people a community in which they can be apart of and contribute to like any person does to any society. This gives gamers a sense of accomplishment and meaning they may otherwise not so easily attain in real life.

Secondly, I like video games because they touch on all of the things I love. I grew up reading Marvel comics and drawing characters, so video games carry all of these relative aspects to my own life. Worlds of magic, weapons, creatures, guns, warfare, fighting, flying, racing, all of this stuff is fun to do but really, there is only a very small portion of us that will do all that in real life. But, in the gaming world, anything is possible and you can enter any situation that grabs your attention and imagination.

Computer games are loved because they give the individual an imaginative outlet, a great story with lovable characters, a community. And most of all, games give humans entertainment to amuse our brain which lingers in a somewhat mundane reality compared to an existence with magic and crazy weapons.
