Why Are We So Condemning of Homosexuality?

Zyomara Estremera
Why are we so concerned on how others live their lives? We do this especially when it comes to homosexuality, but why? People love to use the Bible as an excuse as to why their lifestyle is "wrong" or some people just say it is disgusting. Who are you to judge?

There are plenty of animals who partake in sexual activities with the same sex but you don't see them getting judged. Just because these acts seem deviant to those who follow the norm doesn't mean that lifestyles that we are not familiar with are wrong.

I've heard so many people say that homosexuals should give up or that they will never get equality. It comes as a surprise to me that most of these people I know are of African American descent. Some of these people are my friends and I know that everyone has their opinions but theirs seem harsh. Can we not compare this to the Civil Rights Movement? How many times were they told to give up or beaten to scare them into being ashamed of who they were? Did they give up? No, so why should homosexuals? Why would you now put down another group of people who are trying to fight for equal rights?

I understand you may not agree with homosexuality and that what I or anyone else says will not change your mind; I am merely voicing my opinions on something I feel so strongly about. Why result to violence? Why not just let them go about living their lives? If you get harassed by them and feel uncomfortable then that is reasonable for you to disagree with it. One thing you have to understand though is that they are not all the same. People result to stereotyping and categorizing before they get to know the people they judge. If you don't want any contact with them then keep to yourself and tune them out. Don't say that you "hate" them when you don't have a real reason as to why is.

Some may say I defend them because I am a woman, but I know plenty of women that have animosity toward homosexuals. My message is to just live your life and ignore what is deviant in your eyes. Don't make matters worse.
