The reasons we write online are as varying as the content producers themselves. It takes this wide-spectrum of life experiences and knowledge to fulfill the need of a successful online resource such as Associated Content. Each of our unique voices brings something different to the online world and our words are now branded deep in the world wide web with each article we publish.
In a way, we Content Producers are a part of history. A time in this world when the average Joe (and Jane) truly contribute to the historical tracking of events and products of our time. Years from now, when future generations are researching history assignments online, they will be presented with content that was produced by their ancestors.
Our words will become their facts.
Content Producers are, to me, pioneers in the modern internet age. Consumers are no longer presented with online content that was created by some lone "expert". It is now presented by the people who live the experiences. We read real words by real people. We find out how to make things, fix things, buy things, and improve things by real people who have "been there, done that". Best of all, we are willing to share our experiences and knowledge with the world in order to make it a better place.
So, in lies the question - Why Do We Write Online?
There are more answers to that question than there are seconds in a month... maybe in a year. Being that we are all individuals with unique needs and desires, I'm not sure any two answers can be exactly the same.
Some of us want to contribute to history while some of us just simply have something to say.
For me, it is a bit different, and also similar, to other Content Producers. Writing has always been my outlet. Do I do it well? I don't know for sure. In words, as in art, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. While one viewer may love my style of writing, another may detest it... and that is just fine and dandy to me.
These days, I write because it is my job. I, like so many others, have taken the big leap of faith and have come home to earn my living. I have a strong desire to be the master of my own destiny and working online has provided the outlet for me to accomplish just that. Working online for myself is both liberating and terrifying at the same time. There is only one place to look when I succeed or have set-backs, and that place to look is in the mirror.
I am truly excited to be part of this time in online history and I am beyond thankful for this opportunity, too. Knowing that future generations will use my words to base their facts is a bit humbling, yet it also fills me with a great sense of responsibility.
Why do I write? Yes, it pays the bills, but it also provides me with an outlet such as the one I am utilizing at this very moment. I am over-whelmed by the goodness and knowledge that surrounds me here at Associated Content. I am even more amazed at how willing they are to all help each other to make Associated Content the very best it can be, which in turn, makes each of us the very best we can be.
Why do YOU write? I would love to know. Please share your reasons with all of us.

Post a CommentI love this article and can totally relate!
I could not state it any better! I have taken the plunge to make this my only job for the rest of my life, but it can be a scary proposition-
Thank you all for your wonderful comments!
Wonderful article, Jennifer. I felt as if you were describing my own sentiments! I view writing as a creative outlet and it is the one job I have enjoyed more than all of them combined.

Hi Jennifer... it's the other Jennifer from the forum. ;)
Nice article. I like how you mentioned history. Since I'm into geneology, I think of everything in terms of history and making my mark on the world so that someday when my descendants look me up, they'll know I was up to no good. :) I also write because if I didn't, I'd die. My soul would suffocate and I'd be a very boring person.
Well stated. I write as a creative outlet and a way to keep my brain active!
Will - Thank you!
This is an amazingly insightful article. I feel fortunate to be the first to comment on it.
