Why Do You Need a Wedding Planner?

Shana Box
You have searched for that "One" and have finally found him. And your head begins to fill with every wedding dream you have ever had since the first time you pretended your pillow case was a veil. Suddenly it doesn't seem quite so easy does it? Back then you didn't have much to worry about other than whether your mom had washed your dress-up clothes. Now you have a career, or are in college. You have bills and other things to take care of besides figuring out your budget and who has the linens in that specific color of teal.

This is where the equivalent of your own "Personal Fairy Godmother" comes into the picture. The Wedding Planner. The job of a wedding planner is simple enough. At least in definition. You take a bride, listen to her dreams, and then bring her back to reality! The Wedding Planner knows all the insider tips to the best venues in town, and which florist does not use carnations.

While a Planner can come into play at any point in the game, it is wise to hire one as soon as you have a date set. The Planner can be involved from beginning to end, or simply to organize and get you pointed in the right direction. Or for the Do-it-yourself-er, come in and provide the service of Day Of Coordination. Or DOC to those in the know. Whichever route you decide to go, it all depends on two things, your budget, and your independence. Although I believe that you can't afford NOT to have one!

Most wedding planners worth their salt, will have an initial meeting with the wedding couple to give them an idea of what all her job entails. They sit down, with no obligation, to discuss what the planners role will be, and how she/he will fit into that perfect day. An important thing to look for in a planner is a personality that matches the brides. You want someone who will listen to your ideas, and then show you what is feasible and what is too over the top. Honesty, as well as organization and creativity should be obvious from the beginning. Your planner should be willing to attend vendor meeting with you. There are so many questions to ask, and as the professional, they should be there to remember the ones you don't! As the wedding approaches, a good wedding planner will be tying up loose ends as well as begin to prepare an initial Wedding Day Itinerary. All the vendors will be called and verified of time for set-up and for final payments. For the Rehearsal, the planner will either defer to the officiant or take the lead. Showing everyone where to stand, and how to get down the aisle. On the Day Of, the planner will spend the day putting out fires, assisting brides and maids alike with preparations. The bride should feel like her only job is to make it down the aisle and through the reception without a worry in the world.

Your wedding should be memorable, and not from all the mishaps, but because it flowed smoothly and you felt like the princess we all deserve to be at least once in a lifetime!
