Why Weight Loss Supplements Will Burn a Hole in Your Wallet

On your next visit to the grocery store, take a walk down the isle where they keep all of the supplements. You will notice all kinds of supplements making bold claims. Perhaps weight loss supplements can help you lose a little water weight, which you will probably gain back, but can a weight loss supplement really help you lose weight permanently? That is what the weight loss supplement industry wants you to think. But here is something you need to think about if you think a weight loss supplement can help you with permanent weight loss:

Imagine a diet which allowed you to eat a cheese burger and two slices of pizza for lunch, followed by steak and potatoes for dinner, and an evening snack of cookies and chips. If such a diet really worked, EVERYONE would be doing it. But hey, all you have to do is pop a weight loss supplement into your mouth, and "walla", the pounds will disappear, irregardless of what you eat, right? Wrong.

Weight loss isn't about taking a pill. If you ate the diet mentioned above on a regular basis, every day, year in and year out, do you really think a pill could turn a cheese burger, pizza, cookies, and chips into something healthy? Weight loss supplement companies will sometimes put a disclaimer on their label indicating that their weight loss supplement is not proven to work, but will help add balance to an already healthy diet.

What does this mean? It basically means that weight loss supplement companies know that their products don't really work, but also that they can get away with selling them as long as they add a disclaimer to the label. Their products sell well because of the psychological impact these weight loss supplements have on the consumer.

So, if weight loss supplements don't work, what does work? The weight loss supplement companies have already given you a hint: eating a healthy diet. If you really want to lose weight, change your eating habits. But what do you eat? A high protein diet? A low fat diet? A Subway Sandwich?

If you have no clue what to eat that is healthy, go to your local bookstore and find a diet book with healthy recipes, or just go online - there is a ton of information at your finger tips. The important thing is to not buy into all of the weight loss hype, because chances are, rather than losing weight where it matters most - at least permanently, then only thing that will feel lighter will be your wallet.
