Why the Wii is My Console of Choice for the Next Generation

Mark
Every video game enthusiast is familiar with the three next-generation consoles: the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. But which one is the best? Which one has the games with the better graphics? There are many questions to determine which console one should buy, but you also have to consider personal preferences. There is no definitive answer that says one console is better than another. But, in the following paragraphs I will explain why I am choosing to buy a Wii over the other consoles.

First of all, you could buy all three of them, but that would be a lot of money, approximately $1250 just for the consoles themselves. Of course there are probably people who have already done that, but most people can not afford that much or simply do not want to. Each console has its own price; the Playstation 3 is $600, the Xbox 360 is $400, and the Wii is only $250. That is reason number one why I choose the Wii over the others.

Now, some people might argue, you get what you pay for. But I don't think this is the case with the Wii. I have played it many times at a friend's house, and it is one of the coolest consoles I have ever played. You do not just sit on the couch and push buttons like all other video game systems. The "Wiimote" senses any motion created by the player, and this is used in the games for the system. For example, "Wii Sports," which comes with the console for free, is a collection of sports games. There is baseball, golf, bowling, tennis, and boxing. You use the Wiimote to swing a golf club, throw a pitch, hit a tennis ball, and so on. The first time I played this game I was amazed because I had never experienced something like that from a video game.

The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are not nearly the same as the Wii. You can tell the games for the PS3 and 360 were made for very high resolution graphics, while the games for the Wii were made for the "fun factor." Some people might argue that the Wii's graphics are not next-generation, but graphics are not everything. In my opinion, graphics don't make a game. It's all about fun for me, and I'm sure many people agree. Sure, graphics are a part of every game, but some people think that it is everything, which it is not.

Another issue that should be addressed, but is often overlooked, is the size of the consoles. The Wii is the smallest, probably about the size of a book, while the other consoles are fairly large and require more space. Some people (like myself for example) do not have much room near a television for a video game system, but the Wii takes up a small amount of space so this is not a big problem.

In Conclusion, I could probably go into many little details but I want to keep it simple and straightforward. The Wii is simply a blast to play, it is the cheapest of the three next-generation consoles, and its small size makes it so you can have it almost anywhere. All that is left is for me to get enough money, and then I am going out and getting a Wii.

I don't even really like video games but have considered getting a wii. I broke a sweat last time I played one with all the moving.

In the long run 150$ or even 350$ is not going to be a big deal. If you want the Wii, I own it, get it. But remember to look at future games being released for the system. As fun as the Wii is, the control system on all their 50$ games, for the most part, are nowhere near perfect and can be frustrating. You do get what you pay for and what you are paying for is a concept system that will take game developers a year or more to perfect.
