Why the Wii is Different

Get Fit with the Wii

Lynda Altman
The Wii video game system is different from all other game systems. What is the biggest difference? The way the games are played. Unlike other game systems, the Wii gets players physically involved in the games.

Basic System

The Wii comes standard with Wii Sports, a nunchuck, and a remote. It is simple to set up, if you can plug in a DVD player to your TV you can set up a Wii.

Wii Sports

Wii Sports is truly interactive. Golf, tennis, bowling, baseball and boxing are the games you can indulge in. As a single player, you can play against a computer generated opponent. In each sport there are several training modes as well as standard play. All of the sports have multi-player capacity.

Physical Activity

What makes the Wii different from the other games is that it gets the players up and moving. The Wii fit mode of Wii Sports gives you three challenges to determine your Wii age. This age will range from 20 to 80. Play once a day to increase your ability and reduce your age.

Additional Products

The Wii game system has the ability to increase the physical activity level of the game. Adding Wii Fit Plus and the balance board opens up another level of physical fitness activity. Encore makes exercise bands for the Wii. Alternate these with other fitness programs to create a diverse workout that will not become boring. Those who like their exercise hardcore will enjoy Jillian Michaels' fitness programs for the balance board. Xtreme sports enthusiasts will appreciate the skateboard accessory by Tony Hawk. This brings snowboarding and skateboarding excitement to the Wii in a way that the balance board cannot.

Recommendations

Get this one for the family. Most of the games for the Wii are family oriented. This system has the unique ability to get the whole family playing together. It adds additional fun to family fun night. Homeschoolers will like it too! Wii Fit Plus or any of the other fitness programs can be used as part of a physical education program.
