Competition
The biggest competitor for Wii Sports Resort in 2009 has to be Modern Warfare 2. Unlike the former, however, the first-person shooter will have its sales cannibalized by Halo 3: ODST and other similar games. Wii Sports Resort, on the other hand, will be in the spotlight by itself. This is because the game will feature several mini-games using the Wii MotionPlus accessory. While some other titles will use the same accessory, they won't be taking advantage of the technology as much as Wii Sports Resort.
Nintendo Wii User Base
Wii Sports Resort also has the luxury of being on the Nintendo Wii. So while it may be exclusive to only one system, the game has plenty of potential prospective buyers. The Nintendo Wii is the fastest selling video game system ever with at least 50 million units in households so far. In fact, it will soon past the combined user base of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Therefore, the Wii user base is more than big enough for Wii Sports Resort to become the best-selling video game of 2009.
Wii MotionPlus
As mentioned before, Wii Sports Resort is bundled with Wii MotionPlus. So far, Nintendo Wii games that were bundled with an accessory have become some of the best-selling software in recent years. The list includes Wii Sports with the Nintendo Wii system, Wii Play with Wii Remote, Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel and Wii Fit with Wii Balance Board. With the WiiMotion Plus being the next must-have accessory on the Nintendo Wii, you can expect Wii Sports Resort to join the best-selling group when it comes out in North America during the summer of 2009.
Popularity of First Game
Finally, it also helps that Wii Sports Resort is the sequel to the best-selling game ever. Wii Sports helped the Nintendo Wii become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to being packaged with the system in most regions. Wii Sports was the game that brought many non-traditional gamers into the gaming world. Based on brand association alone, Wii Sports Resort will be the most popular game in 2009.

Post a CommentThe Wii Sports Resort has at least one major competitor: EA Sports has come out with it's own sports package for the Wii and it incorporates the Wii Motion Plus also. And nobody does sports games like EA. That will impact on sales.
