Why I Will Attend Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally

Faith, Hope and Charity

I am tolerant of Glenn Beck. I would not consider myself a fan. I do believe he is gifted in his ability to seek context and connect the dots better than most commentators. I would not consider myself political. Sure I take my responsibility to vote very seriously, however, I am not losing sleep over any election results. I spent the first 14 years of my working career from the cockpit of an F-15 fighter aircraft. I was trained to kill people that I did not know and protect people I did not necessarily like. Our President was our boss. It was the Clinton administration that drove me out of the cockpit. Again, I'm not political. However, once my boss, the Commander in Chief, lost my respect, it was time to hang up the flight suit. Unlike most of my peers, I did not take the predictable road to fly for an airline. It was not about a job. It was about pursuing a passion; a different course.

My next career took me inside the bowels of corporate America. I left the government due to lack of fiscal responsibility and untamed bureaucracy that tarnished honor. Corporate America has its own demons, but delivering a profit is certainly a fundamental premise that the government lacked. There are dubious characters in the private sector as well. Unabated, governments have a natural tendency to grow. The bigger the more relevant. The private sector seeks to be more productive and has a natural tendency to seek and eliminate waste.

I am not anti-government. I am pro leadership. I am not cynical of our elected officials. I am about integrity. Although I am for term limits, I do not abhor career politicians. There are plenty of political employment opportunities, but staying in one position for decades is excessive. Move up or move out.

The day Glenn Beck becomes political, will be the beginning of his demise. Politicians should take notes. It will be a powerful lesson. Glenn Beck has resonated with the heartbeat of America. Americans are tired of working hard to see their tax dollars disrespected. I believe we have reached a tipping point. Government salaries should never exceed the private sector wages. It is time to push the reset button. Restoring honor is about holding elected officials accountable on both sides of the aisle. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

I believe that much of what is expected of the government today should be reallocated through personal community involvement. Litigation and entitlement has cast a dark cloud over neighborhoods and held random acts of kindness hostage. I do not believe that if you spill hot coffee on yourself you should be awarded millions of dollars. Kids should honor parents and not look for opportunities to sue them. I believe you should admit your mistakes regardless if someone has a recording of them. I believe our great country is by divine appointment and by following the laws of the Bible we can we can have fewer government rules.

Glenn Beck's restoring honor is about looking in the mirror, admitting we have a choice, stop playing the victim and becoming a better person. As a whole we will be a better nation. We have lost our way spiritually, compromised our integrity and at risk of becoming too prideful. Until we change ourselves, we will not be able to change our voting prejudices.

Why am I attending the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally? I have spent a significant part of my life defending this great nation and it pains me to see people I risked my life for sending text messages during the national anthem. For the first time In my life I feel our great nation is in great peril. I have seen the enemy and he is us.
