Why I Will Avoid Shopping at King Soopers in Denver for Baby Products

Like many so mothers, I am always looking for ways to save money, especially on the expensive items that my son needs like diapers and formula. I cut coupons, read the ads and shop in bulk when it makes sense. However, I've now learned that not all stores are playing fair when it comes to sale prices. The worst offender in Aurora, Colorado has been King Soopers, also know as Kroeger's and City Market across the United States.

When my son was an infant still, we were purchasing formula at the high price of about $23 a can. A can would last about 5 days! So, when I saw that King Soopers had a sale on formula, I was delighted. Their ad said two dollars off Enfamil, which was the brand we used. I headed over to the Aurora location to stock up, bringing along my coupons, hoping to save about four dollars per can. To my surprise, I found that the sale was not really a true sale at all! My son's Enfamil was normally about $23 a can. King Soopers had raised the regular price to $25 and then had it on what they deemed a sale at $23 a can. Disgusted, I left my shopping cart full of groceries in the aisle and left, then headed to another store to make my purchases.

I've been shopping at other stories since, but just his past week, I was in King Soopers again. Here in Colorado, we've been getting hammered by Mother Nature and they were one of the few stores open during the storm. I was out of many essentials, including diapers. I normally buy the Mega Pack, which holds about 70 diapers for about $18.00. Not a great buy, but Pamper's does include a two dollar off coupon in each package. I made my way over to the baby aisle and noticed that my son's Pampers were on sale. To my delight, the Aurora King Sooper's had them on sale for $14.00. I grabbed the package and noticed that it only had forty diapers in it, not the usual amount I get at other stores. Somehow, King Soopers feels that it is okay to charge a higher price, mark them on sale and then you get less diapers. Given the snow situation, I had no choice but to buy the diapers from them.

Later that night, I opened the new package of diapers from King Soopers and was upset to find that no coupons were included in this package. Pamper's offers a points program where you can earn toys with the points included in your package of diapers. I'll take a program like that any day! But, of course King Soopers had to further cut the benefit of buying diapers from them. Their package of Pampers did not include the code for the points.

I should have know better after the formula sale incident, but now I've learned my lesson. First time, shame on you. Second time, shame on me, as they say. And, I'll no longer be shopping at any King Soopers in the metro Denver area, especially for baby products!

Formula - go to Walmart. There are only two factories in the US that make Formula. So if you buy Enfamil, Similac or the store brand, it all comes from the same place. Check the label and you will see all the ingredients are the same - EXACTLY. I buy my formula at Walmart for only $12 a can in the same size that Enfamil and Similac cost $24 to $26 a can.

This just goes to show you that you have to be careful and read all the labels when shopping. They are soooo tricky! Great job!
