Why is Women's Bodybuilding Becoming so Popular?

Jeff Schuman
Have you ever watched a women's bodybuilding competition. If you have the first thing that might come to mind is the incredible bodies these women have. These women are developing their bodies into unbelievable sculptures to be envied every bit as much as their male counterparts.

The modern era of female bodybuilding began in 1977. There were a number of contests for women during the next couple of years, including "Best In The World" promoted by Galaxy founder George Snyder. In 1980, the IFBB sanctioned the first Ms. Olympia, which was staged in Philadelphia by Synder. The success of this competition was a watershed event in the history of bodybuilding for women.

Today the sport of bodybuilding is attracting women in record numbers. This is because women can now compete on the same level as men with titles on the line.

To get ready for a women's bodybuilding competition they have to follow a strict exercise plan and diet as well. When on a regular exercise and diet program a woman can reduce her body fat a lot.

Woman are different than men in that they need body fat. When a woman does not have body fat she can lose her menstrual cycle and a number of other physical problems can surface. That is not all.

Bodybuilding is easier for men than women for several reasons. The hormone testosterone plays a large role in building muscle. Men have more testosterone than women. Women have more estrogen. This lack of testosterone makes it harder for women to build muscles like a man has.

Unfortunately with woman's testosterone levels so low some woman will turn to anabolic steroids to build up muscles. This can cause all sorts of health problems for them in the long run.

While steroids can build muscle mass on woman it is illegal and it causes many health problems. These include:
muscle weakness, high blood pressure, hair growth, hair loss, and acne.

Anabolic steroids have become the dark side of several sports and some women have turned to them to win and be more competitive in women's bodybuilding.

If done right body building woman can define there muscles and improve there over all health. Bodybuilding can improve the way a woman looks as well as her health. It can affect her self image and play a large role in defining the woman she becomes. These are all positive things that come from bodybuilding for women.
