Why Won't He Commit? Insight from a Guy's Perspective

There are several reasons a guy can give you about why won't he commit; we'll get into some of those, but I have a guy's perspective on this. If you are what he wants, entirely, then he should be able to commit. Everything else is just an excuse. Sure, nothing is an exact science, but more times than not, if he's got a good thing and he knows it, the commitment shouldn't be far behind. So, what are some reasons as to why won't he commit? Read on.

Dating Others

If he's really that into you, how can he be interested in dating other people? If you are truly the one that rocks his world, he shouldn't be turning his attention towards searching for someone better. He should know you are the best thing that has come his way, and he'd be foolish to turn away from a commitment. If he doesn't feel this way, it could be a reason as to why won't he commit.

Not Ready

Sooner or later, a decision will be made on whether to date exclusively. Some guys like to remain single as long as possible. If your man tells you he's not ready for a commitment, it's similar to wanting to date others. From a guy's perspective, if he thinks you're girlfriend material, he should think twice before trying to hang onto his single days by a thread.

Financial Stability

Guys want the feeling of financial security before settling down long-term, especially if it could lead to marriage. If a guy wants to save money to buy a house or have a savings built for the future, it may be a reason holding him back as to why won't he commit.

Compromises Lifestyle

Similar to feeling "not ready" a guy enjoys his present lifestyle without having to answer to someone. A commitment could mean less time for video games, less time with friends, or less time for whatever makes him go. If he feels his lifestyle will be significantly reduced, talk to him about it and maybe some assurances can be made that it won't.

You Have Children

If you have children from a previous relationship, taking on a commitment may be something more than he's willing to inherit. It could be a potential hang-up as to why won't he commit, so you both have to talk about it.

Religious Beliefs

Another potential hang-up could be religious differences. If he is religious and you are not, this can be a sticking point when it comes to the marriage ceremony, raising kids, and attending church services. Similar to discussing how his lifestyle may or may not change, if he agrees to a commitment, a discussion should take place about how he feels about handling the religious differences. If it can't be worked out, it could be a source as to why won't he commit.
