You Can Write a Will Before You Get Sick

Many people think that writing a Last Will and Testament is an admittance that you are about to die. I bet that if you were to start working on your will tonight, and you told someone you were doing so, their first question would be, "are you ok?" It shouldn't be that way, but unfortunately it is. It is really never too early for an adult to write out a Last Will and Testament. Wills aren't just for dividing up property and selecting what type of music to play at your funeral, they can also encompass a Living Will. A living will details what you want your medical team and your loved ones to do in case you were to become incapacitated, such as going into a coma. Do you want your family to "pull the plug" or do you want every lifesaving effort to be made for yourself?

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Some reasons to start preparing to make a will are simple. Think of the term "here today, gone tomorrow." We are not psychic; we do not know what is going to happen to us tomorrow. Remember, tomorrow is never promised, for anyone. Religious or not, there is never a guarantee that you are going to wake up in the morning. Grim thinking, I know. But, it is something you should consider. Writing your Last Will and Testament is the responsible thing to do and it alleviates some of the troubles that your loved one will endure after your passing.

Yes, writing a Last Will and Testament does mean that you are acknowledging the fact that you will some day pass away. You already knew that, but it probably isn't something you think about on a daily or even yearly basis. By writing out a Last Will and Testament and having it drawn up by a lawyer, means you can put that thought out of your head and go on living.

Who Gets the House?

If you have any property you should write out a Last Will and Testament so that the property goes to whom you want it to go to. Also, if you have any debt, you have to take into consideration the debt will have to be paid off before your property can be sectioned off to loved ones or charities. It is smart to look into your insurance coverage for the property you do own. Some insurance policies pay off your home or other property in the event of your death.

Who Do I Want to Care for My Children?

It is absolutely necessary to have a Last Will and Testament if you have school aged children. It is extremely important for you to name a guardian for your children. In the event of a tragedy, it may come to be that you and your spouse both are killed at the same time. If the court does not know what your wishes were regarding your children, the children may have to go into foster care or your living relatives may fight over who should get the children.

Make Sure it is Legally Binding

Writing a Last Will and Testament is important to do at any age. There are even ways for you to write a legally binding Will and Testament yourself. Research the ways to write your own Will online.
