Why Writing for Associated Content is More Fruitful and More Fun Than Writing for Helium

Nicole Lang
Associated Content is a much easier to write for than Helium. When I first started out on this venture I checked out Helium. There are a few problems that I found immediately.

1) You cannot write on whatever topics you wish.

There are multiple channels and topics from which to choose from. Even selecting one becomes time consuming. There is the option to suggest a topic but that again is not guaranteed

2) Money to be earned.

With Associated Content you have multiple options for earning money. Always

performance payments (payments per page view) are an option and if you choose to grant exclusive rights to Associated Content you are eligible for upfront payments in addition to performance payments.

Will Helium offers money for various page view etc. also, their system of how you earn money is very convoluted and not easy to understand.

Although it seems that I make more as far as page views on Helium, I make nothing for the articles themselves and am clearly making more money on Associated Content.

3) Necessity to "Rate" Articles on Helium

On Helium, it is necessary to rate a certain number of articles in a 90 day time period or else you are not eligible to earn money. The first problem this presents is time. When writing online that is what I want to do write not rate. The other problem is people who are not concerned at all about your topic are rating it. When I read articles on Associated Content it is because I want to. Rating something you are not interested in or do not have time for can very easily lead to rushing or not judging fairly.

4) Ability to See Daily Page Views

Associated Content makes it very easy to track which articles are receiving the most traffic and making you the most money. You can do this by article or in general.

Helium on the other hand will add money to each article based on page views but you have no way of knowing how many people are viewing them and on what days. What days people are viewing them is helpful because you can see if there were more page views when you first published or if it is remaining consistent or just plain dropping off.

Conclusion for me is while both websites are reputable, for me Associated Content is easier to write for and also is more helpful in my growth as an online writer.

Very informative. I too write for both AC and Helium and I really have not been too impressed with Helium. I don't really understand their rating system and the fact that articles are rated by users makes it all the more frustrating. On AC, your content is reviewed by the professionals and like you said, there is always an option to make money on AC. Very good article!
