"Wife Swap" Does it Again

Vicki Gamble
I recently watched an episode of "Wife Swap". I recommend this show to anyone who may feel like their life is going nowhere, or feel like they are stuck in a rut. Because I promise you, afterwards you will have a new outlook on your life. Wife Swap takes two wives from totally different backgrounds, and swaps them with another family for two weeks. I have watched this show before, and I actually like it. I just can't believe that there are people like this in the United States.

Wife Swap portrays quite a variety of people. You will see those that are lazy, organized, dirty, clean, snobby, and weird. You name it, it has been on there. Sometimes I wonder why these people want to put themselves on national television and let us all know how "out there" they really are. Some episodes have included wives that work on farms, husbands that are so arrogant that think they are better than everyone else, and wives that can't throw anything (and I mean anything) away.

The most recent episode that I watched included a psychic wife and a pushover mother. I think that it took these two wives less than a minute to realize that they had entered homes that were complete opposites of theirs. But then again, I think their homes might be opposite of a lot of people's homes.

Sherri Silver, the psychic wife, and her husband ran their business together. She worked with her clients, while her husband ran the business end of it. He also blew dry his wife's hair and combed it for her. It sounds like he belongs with the other wife from Kentucky. Her two boys were being groomed for failure. She "read" in their future that they were going to be famous. Well, she was right. They were famous, for about 15 minutes, while on Wife Swap. Unless there is some kind of miracle, her two sons will be nothing but nerds. They spend time playing creativity games with 60 year old women and going to tap dance class.

Ashlee Pitney was the other wife. While she cooked, cleaned, and did laundry, (Did anybody notice the five feet of laundry piled in her hallway? I mean besides the Brady Bunch, why would a small family have that much laundry to do everyday?) her husband sat on the computer and gambled. She loved him so much that she was willing to be the slave while he sat on his butt and watched her do everything. She believed that children should not have rules. They were allowed to eat what they wanted, spend hours playing video games, and basically run the house.

So when the two wives swapped homes, it was pushover meet pushover, and king meet queen. Needless to say the entire show, the two families clashed. Neither the king nor queen wanted to work. Sherri the psychic actually got the lazy husband to blow her hair dry, and Ashlee actually talked the blow drying husband into letting his step sons play basketball. The only good that came out of the swap was the fact that these boys played with someone their own age for once, and the gambling husband truly appreciated his wife and all the laundry she does. Sherri even hypnotized him into not gambling anymore. He wouldn't say whether he thought it was the hypnotizing, or the fact that he realized he needed to help out more.

What I realized, is that if you took all these families from Wife Swap, and put them on the Dr. Phil show, he would have enough episodes to keep running for the next ten years. Because some of these people really do need help. So if you are ever up for a laugh, or just need something to lift your spirits, I recommend Wife Swap. It will really make you appreciate what you have.
