Now, I'm not much on reality TV shows, mainly because I find reality around here pretty much a show unto itself, but I wasn't ready to get up anyway. So what the heck, I thought I'll give it a few minutes.
I have to say that I'd heard of wife swapping before, but this was a little different than what I expected. The premise of this show was for two couples to actually have the wives of the family exchange homes for a two-week period. Of course, to make it interesting, the couples had completely different lifestyles.
One husband and wife had their own rock-and-roll band, and the other couple had what I would call more of a fundamental Christian lifestyle. I won't go into all the details of the show, but needless to say, things such as alcohol, dress codes and attitudes made up most of the show's content. Lesson learned? There's basically some pros and cons to all people.
Later, I told the hubby about it and said, "Why don't we apply to that show?" At first, he was all for the idea of swapping me off for a while until I explained it wasn't quite what he was thinking.
"But what if I get stuck with someone who makes me pick my socks up off the floor?"
"Well, yeah, but what if you get someone who really likes to cook, and you get these really great meals every night?" I countered.
"Can't say that would be too bad for a change. Will this cost me anything? What if they send me a women who likes to buy expensive things for the house?"
"I don't think any wife is going to rush in here and try to redo everything in a couple of weeks. Besides, they probably got some kind of rules against that sort of thing."
"I still don't know because she might want me to watch some of those PBS shows where they sing all that opera music, and you know I've got my shows I like to watch."
"Maybe she won't even be a TV watcher because she'll be too busy doing other things around the house."
"You don't think she's going to want me to help her do housework, do you? Oh, no, no, I just know this isn't a good idea. I think I'll just keep the one I got."
"Well, I think we may be missing a great opportunity here, but okay, if that's what you want."
The ole sweet-talker talked me out of the idea, so I guess this wife will just stay put. I really didn't think he'd go for the idea, but it doesn't hurt to remind him occasionally that maybe he doesn't have it as bad as he thinks after all.

Post a CommentNot a good idea. I hate those shows, why would be put yourself in a position to spend time with a family they go out of their way to find that is so opposite you? And why do the families agree to this and then act so crappy to the new "wife?"
that's just changing one set of problems for antoher! The show was sorta silly and made people look really stupid!
LOL. Enjoyed.
Sneaky way to remind your hubby how good he has it :)
I love it. The grass isn't always greener, as we should remind ourselves!
I think the cons could outweigh the pros -- would not be fun in my estimation.
