Engineers at St. Jude Medical are the creative minds behind the Accent pacemaker. They have engineered a pacemaker that is capable of carrying a wireless signal. This signal is then transferred to a electronic machine that monitors cardiac patients. Doctors and patients will now be able to monitor how the pacemaker is working, how the heart is operating, and or potential life threatening issues from the comfort of their offices and homes.
The concept behind the technology is quite impressive. Inside of your body will of course be the pacemaker. The Accent pacemaker of course has the incorporated technology to send wireless signals to a nearby transmitter that will be hooked up in the patient's home. All of the information obtained by the transmitter will then be sent over the internet to the doctor in charge of your pacemaker. The technology is so clever that it will send the information directly to his/her email as well. This simple process could result in your life being saved in the process.
The best thing about the Accent pacemaker is that it does not require anything extra from the patient. Doctors at St. Jude Medical promise that the process of placing the pacemaker into the patient will remain the same. However, the patient will not have the comfort of knowing his heart is constantly being monitored and immediate action can be taken. Everyone knows that the sooner you act is always better than the later.
Hundreds of other companies will come out with similar pacemakers that they say are going to better., However it is hard to deny the evidence that shows that the Accent pacemaker is above the curve in creating this latest pacemaker. As with any new technology, the team still needs to work out a few kinks and advancements before they pout it into action. We all should keep an eye out for this technology because it could drastically change how we look at pacemakers in the next five years.
