The great thing about the Wii though, is that it's free. You can use the Opera Browser if you have a wifi adapter. However this will not be free for long, so hook up as fast as you can before Nintendo adds a price.
As of now Nintendo does not even have any online compatible games in their library, and the whole online thing was sort of pointless, and not only that it pissed a lot of fans off.
As of now all you can do is add your friends Nintendo wii code to your address book and exchange little letters. But any Wii user knows what a pain in the rear that is. It takes like 10 minutes just to select the letters to compile a full length letter. Not only that, where is the fun, we can do that on the Internet way faster using a frigging keyboard. I'm shocked Nintendo has not made a keyboard yet to make this feature easier to use.
There soon will be a few online compatible games coming out, and I'm sure there are plenty of you out there wondering where to get wii friend codes. Yeah not all of us have 100 friends to add, and we're honestly lucky to have a small handful of friends that do own a system that have it hooked up to wifi for online gaming. I have one. So the need for more was dire, especially with the new online games coming out.
I searched endless forums only to be stopped in my tracks. Most forums exchanging codes require you to be a member for 30 days before you can view friend codes.
However once in, you could post your friend code. Big whoop! It is useless to have a list of friend codes, when they don't have yours added in as well. In order to make the connection both parties must have one another's friend code entered into their systems address book. I found a lot of these forums were practicing the same bull. The constant need to 'check' and see who may or may not of added you, was more of a headache than not.
I finally came across www.mapwii.com. This was by far the fastest and easiest way to gain friends from all over the world.
A map of the world comes up with little dots where other users are registered. I was able to pick friends from Australia to Japan. The choice was mine. Once I clicked this person, I could send them a friend code request. They could accept it or deny it. Most accepted. Once they accepted my code was sent to them, and theirs sent to me.
Signing up is easy you simply add your nickname that you use on your wii, your friend code, and city you live in. (Don't worry they do not require actual address, or real ones for that matter).
Whats also great about the wiis friend program is that if you don't like someone, or they rub you the wrong way, you can simply delete them, and they are gone forever. No longer able to harass you. I myself have never come across such a member, so I feel this program is golden. I am also able to find players my age, where in the forums I was dealing with a lot of 11 year olds.
Before I knew it, I too was getting more requests than I could even handle. I have a nearly filled address book, and I keep it where it is at for now. These new friends email me through my wii every so often and tell me about their country, the weather, and nearly just about anything on their minds. Its fun, but writing back to all of them could be a tedious wasteful task.
I just cannot wait for the frigging online games to start hitting the shelves so we can finally verse one another.
One issue I have with Nintendo is their need to have different friend codes for each individual game. If this is the case Nintendo is going to yet again piss off a lot of members.
With Nintendo DS if you had Nintendogs and Animal Crossings, you got 2 new friend codes to exchange. I find this annoying, and one code is way more than enough.
Nintendo says it uses friend codes so that way children can and will only exchange with real people they know. However Nintendo is stupid as hell for thinking like this, seeing how the want and desire for friends will lead them to the Internet to find friend codes and members to exchange with, allowing for any predators to make contact with them.
Forums have to be the worst spot to look for friends for the wii, and with www.mapwii.com you add friends without having to even chat with them in forums. Making things safer. And parents, make sure you are aware of what your children are doing on their wii's. Check their emails regularly for offbeat messages, and keep stressing to never ever give out personal information.
Trust me, it may look like all fun and games, but in reality they are dealing with real people when it comes to online gaming.
