I had never thought that I would say this but now looking at the features of the Wii, I could see why it had become the phenomenal console it turn out to be as of today. Speaking of success, it's not just the innovative controls that make this system the hottest console of all time but also the many hundreds of game related accessories and superior libraries it offer. Now that I mention it, just by owning a Wii, you will feel like you own not just one or two but ten consoles altogether.
Don't believe me, here's a brief rundown, the Wii is a new-generation console (not next-generation like what many believe it to be) with new innovative games coming out for it from many of the greatest game publishers of all time such as Capcom (Okami, Zack and Wiki, Resident Evil 4 & Umbrella Chronicles, Street Fighter IV), Namco Bandai (Soul Calibur Legends, Tales of Symphonia 2, Fragile), Square Enix (Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - The Crystal Bearers, Dragon Quest Sword, Kingdom Heart 3), Sega (Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Nights! Journey Through Dreams, House of the Dead: Collector's Edition), Konami (Elebits), Atari (Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 & 3), Tomy (Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution), UbiSoft (TMNT, Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 & 2), Universal (Crash of the Titan, Spyro games), SNK (Metal Slug Anthology, The King of Fighters Collection, Samurai Shodown Anthology), Midway (Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Cruis'n USA, TNA Impact!), Activision (Guitar Hero III, Marvel Nemesis) and Nintendo's very own (Wii Sports!, Excite Trucks, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Wii Play!, Wario Ware Inc., Smooth Moves!, Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Battalion Wars 2, Wii Fits!, and the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl, new Kid Icarus game, Mario Kart Wii, Kirby Wii, F-Zero WX, Star Fox Wii, Duck Hunt Wii, Ice Climbers Wii, Wario World 2, Golden Sun: Book Three, Metroid Dredd, Super Mario 128, Mario Party 9, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Pikmin 3, Pilot Wings Wii, Custom Robo 2, Eternal Darkness Wii, 1080' Revolutions, Wave Race Wii, Battle Clash Wii, Animal Crossing 3, Panel de Pon Wii, new Pokemon Wii title, new Dr. Mario title, new Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, Earth Bound 3 a.k.a. Mother 4 in Japan, the next Legend of Zelda and more); however, Wii titles aren't what you are left with for this console, outside the Wii's own library is the complete backward compatibility from the GameCube library of games.
If that's not enough, then connect your Wii online and check out Nintendo's Wii Shop Channel and you'll find yourself with more downloadable classics from Nintendo's past libraries in the Wii Virtual Console such as the NES with titles such as Ninja Gaiden, Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, & 3, and more, Super NES with killer titles like Super Metroid, Zelda: A Link To the Past, Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and upcoming 3, ActRaiser and more, and N64 with 64-bit classics like Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, and more as well as many of their competitors such as the Sega Genesis with Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, Gunstar Heroes, Eternal Champions, Shining Force 1 & 2, and more, Turbo Graphx-16 with R-Type, Bonk and more, Turbo Graphx CD, Neo Geo with Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, World Heroes and the soon to be release Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown, and the annual King of Fighters series and more and the soon to be available MSX. If that still doesn't satisfied your gaming taste and are hungry for some goodies, there are also the soon to be available Nintendo Wii Ware titles which are newer fresher downloadable games that can be purchase online and play the same way as the Virtual Console titles but with new contents and online capabilities features added to the mix, such titles are the upcoming Dr. Mario game, a new puzzle game from Namco as well as Square Enix's upcoming online RPG, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - The Little King and the Promised Land. Now when you add those entire libraries up you'll be amaze at how large a gaming library this console could hold.
You had the Wii's own library of new games, the backward compatible GameCube library, the downloadable NES, Super NES, N64, Sega Genesis, Turbo Gaphx-16, Turbo Graphx CD, Neo Geo, and the upcoming MSX library and last but not least the new upcoming downloadable Wii Ware library as well, oh and I almost forgot, the Import library are also available as well. Add all the number of games for these libraries up by the time the year 2010 hits or by the time the PlayStation 4 or the next X-Box arrive and you'll know how massive these libraries are. It feels almost as if the Wii is a multi-videogame console equivalent to the online emulator, the MAME and for half the price of the 60 GB PS3 or a few hundred dollars cheaper than the premium X-Box 360, the Wii is a killer console. For GameCube owners, to hype up the library even more, gamers could even enjoy the entire GameBoy library as well by plugging in that Game Boy Player and the entire Nintendo universe will be at the bottom of your palm. Now that's what I call, "Playing with Power, the power from all game libraries of legendary consoles. Now all we need are the Sega Master, Sega 32X, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Atari 2600, Atari Jaguar, Commodore 64, and 3D0 libraries to end it all for good but it won't come soon enough will it.
The number of games from different libraries you can enjoy on the Wii is as follow:
- Wii (Wii's specific games with innovative controller functions added)
- NES (Games from Nintendo 8-Bit home console available for download via VC)
- Super NES (Games from Nintendo 16-Bit home console available for download via VC)
- Nintendo 64 (Games from Nintendo 64-Bit home console available for download via VC)
- Sega Genesis (Games from Sega 16-Bit home console available for download via VC)
- Turbo Graphx-16 (Games from NEC 16-Bit home console available for download via VC)
- Turbo Graphx CD (Games from NEC 32-Bit home console available for download via VC)
- Neo Geo (Games from SNK arcade home console available for download via VC)
- MSX (Games from MSX computer console available for download via VC soon)
- Import Titles (Games from any of the above consoles that were never release to the Western world available for download via VC)
- Wii Ware (Brand new Wii exclusive downloadable titles with added features available for download via VC)
- GameCube (Games from Nintendo's forth home console, can be play by way of backward compatibility)
- Game Boy Library (Games from the entire generation of Game Boy lineup from 1989 starting with Tetris to 2007 ending with Crash of the Titan and more, could only be played by way of the Game Boy Player for the GameCube, a Wii version of the Game Boy Player will be release once the next generation Game Boy arrive in 2009 or whenever Nintendo decided to upgrade it)
Hey, you only need a $249.99 Wii (which came with a free copy of Wii Sports!), a $99.99 GameCube (or cheaper for used system at around $40-$70) and a $49.99 Game Boy Player to play all of the above. In total you spend only $399.97 and yet a massive list of available libraries of games are at your finger tips, now compare that to the newly released $399.99 40 GB PS3 which is about close to the same price which lack PS2 backward compatibility, WiFi capabilities, HDMI supports, and a bundle game (it came bundle with a free Blu-Ray movie, Spider-Man 3 only, wish it was the game though) or the $399.99 X-Box 360 Arcade Bundle which lack regular X-Box backward compatibility support and wireless functions without even a hard drive but comes bundle with three old arcade games. Sony and Microsoft may be the king of multimedia (ranging from some movies to some music to some photo and pictures customization to some videogames), but Nintendo is the king of multi-videogame (all about videogames). Sure PS3 could play Blu-Ray and X-Box 360 could play HD-DVD (actually you don't play them, you get to watch them instead, hello they're movies, not games) along with some graphical new looking games, but Wii could play an entire generation of every new and old games from the past to the many that are still on store shelves today. Who would want to waste their time watching a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD movies when there are great games like Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on store shelves? One thing still bother the mind though, when will Nintendo create a hard drive for all of these game data, I know SD cards are available but we really need more than just 2 GB and we really don't want to re-download them each time we want to play, it takes away too many times doing that.
