Wii Fit Plus Review - How to Stay in Shape & Lose a Few Pounds

John Barnett
It's never been harder to stay in shape. An era of convenience and encouraged poor choices has created an extremely difficult environment to stay healthy in. In an effort to combat this, exercise has tried to modernize itself by switching from the VHS and mail-order kit format to the DVD and video game format. With organized exercising becoming more accessible and affordable, just what excuse can people have for not trying to stay healthy? A lot of consumers have wondered if Wii Fit Plus , one such popular venue, is a worthy exercise mediums. Turn on your TV, do a few stretches, and pop in the disc- let's find out. Wii Fit Plus retails for $19.99 and requires the Wii Balance Board peripheral. Wii Fit Plus features more exercises, improved controls, and more expansive features than its predecessor.

Yoga Wii

The first section on the disc is Yoga. This straightforward array of endurance building, muscle toning exercises is part of the meaty half of Wii Fit Plus. The on-screen trainer can be selected as male or female by your preference and helps you at every step of the way. The virtual trainer is supportive and accurate in his or her endeavors to educate you in Yoga. The Wii Balance board does an excellent job of detecting your motions so that you perform the actions appropriately.

With a ton of different Yoga poses to attempt and the incentive to go back and try them again, this portion of the workout is very satisfying. You'll be burning calories and making yourself more flexible in no time! I suggest you always start with the Deep Breathing pose- it's a superb gateway exercise. Beyond that, the Spine Extension, Palm Tree, and Sun Salutation are chief contenders among the Yoga poses.

Strength Training Wii

While women tend to prefer Yoga Wii, men usually prefer Strength Training Wii. This, the other primary half of Wii Fit Plus, is meant for burning fat, raising stamina, and making you stronger. You'll do a variety of basic exercises like push-ups and Torso Twist- as well as more unique ones like Jackknife and Plank.

The end result is a firmer, stronger you with perhaps a little more confidence upon facing the world. The accuracy is again dead-on and the instructors are very helpful. Lightweights should not try to hit the Strength Training exercises in Wii Fit Plus too hard as you'll feel pretty brutal the following day- believe me!

Aerobics Wii

This is the first of the two secondary modes in Wii Fit Plus. Fans of Hula Hoop, Rhythm Karate, and Basic Step will be most pleased by the Aerobics assortment. Most are very easy and intuitive- as well as effective! I recommend doing Free Run at least once a day- an exercise in which you place the Wii Remote in your pocket and run in place as it acts as a pedometer. These exercises work on your agility and orientation.

Balance Games Wii

The final section of Wii Fit Plus is also the most fun. The Balance Games are a set of abstract exercises that improve posture, balance, and reaction times. You'll block soccer balls in Soccer Heading, you'll steer a ball through a maze in Table Tilt, and you'll catch arctic fish in Penguin Slide- all with your body as the controller! Most of the balance games are fun and addictive with beneficial effects on your muscles and posture. Overall, the Wii Fit Plus package is a fantastic buy for anyone looking to lose a few pounds or just stay in shape.
