Tip number one. You can get a power boost at the start of the race. Pressing accelerator as the 2 is disappearing while the countdown is happening sets you up for the rpms to be in the perfect spot for a good launch. Think about drag racing and timing the light tree just perfect and you will get a power boost from the game as well. If you miss the power boost because of timing you can recover by doing tip number 2.
Tip number two. Wheelie's on the motorcycles. In a straightaway jerk back on the controller to get a wheelie going and you will get a short speed boost. Just be mindful of turns coming up as you can't turn hardly at all while the front wheel if up. If you jerk the controller back down it will put the wheel back on the ground. Of course this is only good on the Mario Kart Wii motorcycles or since they are 100 or 110cc they are really pitbikes .
Tip number three. Pull back on controller at jumps to do tricks. Same pull back method as the wheelie but at the edge of a jump. Time the edge of a jump with a controller pull back and the Mario Kart character will do a trick in the air like the FX motocross jumpers do. Why would you do this? Because when you land it gives you another speed boost. This is really good on the maps with lots of jumps.
Tip number four. You have to work the shortcuts using the speed mushrooms and star. What this means is when you have the power-up mushroom and the power-up star which give you speed boosts you can pick the straightest path on the racetrack and power through the slowdown area and cut corners. You won't get docked for it either. This is a great technique that the pro's use so you need to have it in your arsenal as well. This tip works on the Gamecube Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Cart DS, and is one of the best kept Mario Kart secrets.
Tip number 5. After a fall from track hit the accelerator right when the cloud thing drops you back on the course for instant speed restore. This is critical to master the timing so that you can recover after an untimely fall from the track.
With a little practice these tips can make you a better online multiplayer Mario Kart master. As always though timing and practice and being relaxed while playing is key to having fun but still dominating your opponents.
