For those who don't know much about Power Glove, please don't feel left out. Basically Mattel made some faulty niche controller for the Nintendo Entertainment System that failed to live up to any sort of hype garnered form it's appearance in that old Fred Savage movie, The Wizard.
Much like that 1989 stink fest of a movie, Power Glove has a cult following of fans who are(I assume) fully aware of it's blatant mediocrity and insufferable ineptitude. Unlike that movie though, Power Glove actually looked quite promising at first glance. Which can be said about most crappy products that don't end up working properly when you try them for yourself.
Power Glove was supposed to offer a totally new gaming experience, the likes of which no one had ever seen before! By simply raising your hand toward a television set, players could control games like Rad Racer and Punch-Out with some sort of mythical electricity and magic combination. Lightning bolts, bedhead and cool shades would be at your disposal by simply wearing Mattel's futuristic gaming peripheral.
At least, that's what I gathered from memories of Mattel's Power Glove ad campaign. In reality it wasn't like that at all. Power Glove offered an overly redundant control scheme that involved doing random gang signs to move on screen characters in your favorite video game.
Example: Instead of throwing a hand forward to toss Shurikens in Ninja Guiden, You'd either need to bend your index finger or thumb. This would cause players to have both digits extended throughout the entire time of using a Power Glove. Looking down and seeing an 'L" symbol made with your hand was very fitting, because you fell for false advertising from a toy company, and "Lost" out on $100 when purchasing this useless piece of garbage that barely functioned like the stupid instruction manual said it would.
Where Mattel failed miserably, Nintendo can succeed exponentially. There's no reason they shouldn't at least think about making Power Glove for Nintendo Wii. This is basically a Six Million Dollar Man situation. Gentlemen, We can rebuild...We have the technology...I've seen a video on YouTube featuring a hacked Power Glove that controls Wii games, so surely they can make this happen over at the house that Mario built.
