Wii Remote Additions

R.A. Riter
The Nintendo Wii forces players to be more interactive with the video games they play. However, the games can seem a bit awkward when playing if you are only using the Wii Remote. The Remote, although it is effective, doesn't allow the user to feel like they are interacting with the game, as they are grasping a block controller. Here is a list of alternate remotes or remote additions that allow Wii users to experience the game to the fullest.

Nunchuk: The Nunchuk has to be put on the list because it allows the user to use two hands independently of each other. The Nunchuk, used in boxing for example, can allow the player to use both hands and forces them to improve on coordination.

Wii Zapper: The Wii Zapper is a device that allows the user to feel like they are using a gun. The Wii Zapper is a plastic Wii Remote holder that allows the user to slide controller into it. In this manner, the Wii Remote is still facing the sensor bar, so it will still be able to be read by the Wii. Then, there is a trigger that allows the user to pull a trigger instead of pressing a button when shooting at the screen. This provides more interactivity.

Wii Wheel: The Wii Wheel is similar to the Wii Zapper except its purpose is to be a steering wheel instead of being a gun. By locking in the Wii Remote to the center of the wheel, you can turn the wheel in the same manner you would turn the remote. However, because of the shape, the user can feel like they are actually steering something instead of feeling like they are simply turning the remote.

Wii Sports Pack: This package gives the user a baseball bat, golf club, and tennis racket to attach. Other packages may include a pool stick or fishing rod for some games in Wii Play. These are the same as above - this allows the user to feel like they are swinging a bat or racket instead of a remote. The attachments lock on securely and resemble the shape they are intended for.

Wii Sword / Lightsaber: Yes, Star Wars fans can now swing lightsabers around. They attach on the remote and can come in different colors. Swords can be used for Zelda or other sword-fighting games.

Guitar: While these don't require the Wii remote to be attached, it still allows the user to strum a gun instead of pressing buttons on a remote. Other music instruments are possible to, like drums or a microphone.
