WikiLeaks and the 'History Insurance' Torrent

WikiLeaks, a website founded by influential Internet activist Julian Assange, has become a "pillar of light" for many people. This website brings to light some of the greatest government scandals which have occurred recently and brings the information, including confidential documents, recordings and other forms of historical recordings, to the public's eye. In the past year, this website has brought to light a number of different pieces of scandalous information concerning both the war in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Although many people do not believe what WikiLeaks has told the public, millions believe otherwise.

On Nov. 25, 2010, WikiLeaks posted a message on their Twitter page stating that "now is a good time to download some 'history insurance'" with a link leading to a popular person-to-person (P2P) file-sharing network called The Pirate Bay. This file is heavily encrypted and seemingly impossible to access without a password. The password is expected to be released relatively soon by WikiLeaks.

Many people are skeptical about downloading this shady file released by WikiLeaks. Some are frightened by the possibility of a computer-damaging virus, while others are worried about the legal side of obtaining leaked, confidential information. Nobody seems to know what the files contain exactly, besides that they supposedly contain confidential information regarding a number of scandals from a number of different countries. Although none of this information has been verified by a legitimate source, most people on a variety of message boards seem to believe that it could be nothing else.

Considering that WikiLeaks is well-known for leaking confidential information, it does not seem too unbelievable that this "history insurance" file will contain information that will expose governments around the world of doing secretive things that the public simply would not approve of. Whether the information it contains is in regard to the War in Iraq or some other important international event, nobody besides those responsible for WikiLeaks truly knows. On the other hand, according to the WIkiLeaks Twitter page, a number of governments are starting to get on edge about the supposed leaks. According to the New York Times, some of the nations which show great interest in this file include the U.S., Turkey, Russia, Australia and others.

WikILeaks is currently "down for maintenance" according to their website, but this is common for the website before major leaks, such as the one expected to come. According to Democracy Now, a daily television program hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, the leak from this past October contained some 400,000 classified documents relating to the Iraq War. That was the largest amount of leaked information in history! If this upcoming leak is anything in comparison to the previous one, it will be monumental!

Although very little information is known regarding the file, there is a lot of hype about what it could possibly contain. It is expected to be unlocked via password within the next few weeks, if not days. Keep on eye on WikiLeaks' Twitter feed to learn more and see what controversial news is coming in the near future.
