There was no preview long enough for all the laugh out loud moments in "Wild Hogs". I went into the movie expecting it to be funny, but never expected it to be hilarious. I was worried that John Travolta was going to try too hard to be funny or be the center of attention in this film. He proved me wrong. Although he seemed to be the main character in the film, he stepped aside and let William H. Macy take the spotlight in this incredibly smart comedy.
Along with Travolta and Macy, the film stars Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence. They play a group of middle aged, motorcycle gang wannabes going through a mid-life crisis. Deciding their lives needed a little bit more of a thrill, this foursome decides to embark on what they think will be a fantastic adventure of manhood across the country. What they don't count on is their run in with a motorcycle gang, the Del Fuegos, in New Mexico. In an attempt to be the hero, Travolta's plan backfires and the chase begins, unbeknownst to the other three "Wild Hogs". Along the way, they often find themselves in some sticky situations that make you laugh so hard that you will find yourself crying.
William H. Macy's comic timing in this film is utterly hilarious. The part just seemed to be written for him. His character is less than skilled on the bike, and is so innocent and shy, you can't help but love him. Macy takes the cake for his role in this film. Without his character, this film wouldn't have been nearly as funny. Macy even told Oprah that he never wanted to do anything but comedies after doing this film, and in my opinion, he's right! Macy is a comedic genius.
As always, Ray Liotta does an amazing job playing "the bad guy". His character is the head of the Del Fuegos and his psychotic acting skills are, as always, amazing. He's totally believable as the bad-ass biker!
Allen and Lawrence do a great job in this film as well, but their characters didn't stand out quite as much as the others. Although Allen gets top billing for this film, I don't understand why. His role didn't shine as the others did. Lawrence plays the guy whose wife walks all over him and wears the pants in the family. This experience gives him the guts to just finally stand up for himself.
This film is definitely a MUST SEE. I haven't laughed so hard at a film in such a long time, that this was just simply a breath of fresh air. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can run out and buy it. I give this movie 4 1/2 out of 5 Tiaras on the Amy Gayle Scale.
