Will Brad Pitt Be a Hatfield or a McCoy?

Valerie Ferrari
Robert Duvall, executive producer and star of "Get Low," has let the cat out of the bag about a script that Brad Pitt is looking at that seems to be so new that it's not even on his very long upcoming project list on IMDB.

But is it really new new new, or has Brad known about it all along? When Brad Pitt attended the premiere of Kick Ass back in March, there was some buzz going on as to why the prolific actor was sporting a billy goat beard. I mentioned in my article about his appearance at the Kick Ass premiere that it "makes him look like he's going to play one of the Hatfields or McCoys." (March 25, 2010)

According to Robert Duvall, Eric Roth has written an excellent script about the Hatfield/McCoy feud and "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper 'recently' met with Brad Pitt about directing the film for Warner Bros. 'Recently' must have been back in January or February, because you don't grow a Hatfield/McCoy beard overnight, do you?

At the time, cagey Brad told Sun reporter, Gordon Smart that he was just sporting the scruffy look because he just didn't feel like shaving. "It's boredom -- no other reason than that," Brad said. Maybe he should play Fibber McGee.

The Hatfield-McCoy feud went on from 1878 until 1891, although it had its roots in the Civil War. The main guy on the Kentucky side of the feud was Randolph "Ole Ran'l" McCoy and the main guy on the West Virginia side was William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield.

In the 1975 TV movie, "The Hatfields and The McCoys," Devil Anse was played by screen legend Jack Palance while TV actor, Steve Forrest (brother of actor, Dana Andrews) played Ole Ran'l. I wouldn't bet the farm based on that, however, that the role of Devil Anse will go to Brad Pitt, what with Devil Anse being the old Hatfield patriarch. Don't they have to have a love interest for Brad?

Just a few of Brad Pitt's other future projects include a rumored biopic about actor, Steve McQueen, and, according to IMDB, he'll be involved in producing over 15 films, including "Chasing Vermeer" about the theft of an Johannes Vermeer work of art and "Vlad," a film based on the early life of Vlad the Impaler. The "Gunsmoke" movie is still on his list, although there is no confirmation as to whether he will get the role of Marshall Dillon.

If Robert Duvall likes it, then I like it, too.

He would be a darling in anything he portrays. If the movie's not good - we can just gaze at Brad.

Interesting...but I'm trying to decide whether I'd be interested in this project. Could we have Steve Buscemi in it?

Wow, good job with that one. We'll have to start calling you Val the Clairvoyant. :)
