Will Casey Anthony Cop a Plea?

Abby Greenhill
Casey Anthony is accused of killing her two-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony. The little girl was '˜supposedly' with a babysitter, which turned out to be a lie. That was just one of many lies that Casey Anthony told to her parents, to the authorities and to the world. Casey Anthony has always declared her innocence.

There is no need to rehash all the details leading up to Casey's arrest, we've all read it and heard it a million times. But what is making headlines is the fact that the jury selection is in process. It has been since last week. And now the jury selection process was stopped yesterday and no reason was given.

It is a slow process and juror after juror gets excused. We wonder how they will ever find one person who hasn't made his or her mind up about Casey's guilt. Well, it's possible there is one or two somewhere in the country.

But on Wednesday there was a new twist and it is just another opportunity for speculation. The judge had told the courtroom that they had a lot of work to do and would be there until the evening. Suddenly all that changed.

After lunch when all participants returned to court, there was one person missing. That person was Jose Baez, Casey's attorney. Did Baez become ill? Was there a family matter that took him away? What other priority could possibly have made the attorney leave?

There were discussions and whispers. Casey Anthony was seen dabbing at her eyes, crying, but Casey cries often so that is really no indication of anything. According to the Orlando Sentinel, in the afternoon, Baez told the Orlando Sentinel via a text message: "Today's adjournment was due to a private matter. Please stop the speculation, as jury selection will continue at 8:30 tomorrow morning. No further statements will be made."

Shortly after Baez was seen in his car in a parking lot near the courthouse and he was smiling. Is there a plea underway? Or is this all just speculation? Perhaps Baez truly wasn't feeling well. Other members of the defense team had been seen and heard coughing and sneezing.

Things are just not adding up, too many questions and not enough answers. I guess we will have to find out today when court resumes what the big secret is.

We may never know all the details. Such a tragic case.

I wish nothing easy or good for Ms. Anthony, and I am a forgiving person, but this is killing a child and worrying about saving your skin.

    How interesting!

If she has a brain she would, but the prosecutor's insistence on pursuing a 1st degree death penalty case against her is going to blow up in his face. Not that I don't think Casey isn't responsible for Caylee's death, I just don't think she killed her purposely with premeditation. I think the child died from an accident, neglect or parental misdeed (overdose of chlororform so Mommy could go out and party, perhaps), and instead of reporting it, she tried to cover it up. If she had just come forward at once, she would have been slapped with manslaughter, and gotten maybe 5 years in jail.

It will be interesting to see what transpire in this case. A plea bargain? Hmm!
