Will Charice Pempengco Be a Rival for Celine Dion?
I remember when watching Oprah that it was noted that one day this amazing singer will just be known as Charice. I think that day has come given what has happened to her since I saw her on Oprah.
What I found so amazing about this singer from the Philippines who has been singing since she was a very little girl and whose hero is her mom are the two sides of her. Watching her on Oprah I saw a little girl who easily cried. Her crying was from pure happiness and I'm sure disbelief that this fame is happening to her. The other side is what comes out of her when she opens her mouth and sings.
Charice had a tough childhood. She watched as her father tried to kill her mother while, though only about 4 years old, she stood helplessly by and feels guilty that she did nothing. Meanwhile neighbors heard the commotion and saved her mom. Charice hasn't seen her father since.
She has a manager in the Philippines, but Oprah has decided to manage her here in the United States. I think Charice would be a hit sensation all on her own but with Oprah backing her it's a sure bet.
I watched this young girl who was crying like an 8 year old stand tall (although she's little) and sing in what can only be described as an amazing voice. What comes out of her is truly a gift. She sang "Because You Loved Me" which was a mega hit by Celine Dion. The fact she picked that song says a lot about how she feels about Celine. So when Oprah surprised Charice with Celine through video conferencing the tears just continued. This is a girl who was invited to Italy to sing with another idol, Andrea Bocelli. They sang "The Prayer." This performance was shown on Oprah's show so I now have a pretty good idea of just how gifted this 16 year old truly is. Well back to Celine who praised Charice and then invited her to sing with her at Madison Square Garden. There wasn't a dry eye in the audience or in my house. In fact I was so taken with Charice that I didn't erase that show because I wanted to share it with my husband who was also taken and was to be moved even more.
Fast forward to a few days ago when Oprah who wasn't at Madison Square Garden but whose best friend, Gail, was. Oprah showed the performance. Charice came out wearing a dress fit for an 8 year old (I don't know if this is a marketing ploy.) complete with a bow around it and the barrette which is now a Charice trademark. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see young girls wearing their hair like Charice does. She told Celine Dion that she was nervous. I could hear Celine tell her she'll be fine. Charice seemed to metamorphosize from this little, scared girl to a voice that rivaled Celine's own voice. The song of course was "Because You Loved Me" dedicated to Charice's mom who sat in the audience more composed than my husband or I were.
Charice's performance was nothing short of sensational. She hits amazing notes. Celine in the background probably more nervous than Charice at that point raised her hand as in "success" when Charice hit some tough notes. There was no sense of nerves in Charice who took over the stage and sang like a true professional. This is one girl to listen to. I get the chills just thinking about her voice. We can only be happy for this girl who led a tough life make it big. The first thing she did it seems was to move her mom into a nicer (by Philippine standards) house. Much of her money until this point has been won through contests from which she has many trophies which she proudly displays.

Post a Commentsabina: I don't know what your talking about but charice definately sings with FEELINGS! That's one of the reasons that make her such a great performer and why she makes the audience cry everytime she sings. You must be blind if you don't see that!
Her career is just starting to begin. She will OUT CAST all other famous singers like celine dion, mariah carey and beyonce because she's a TRUE GREAT PERFORMER. She can also DANCE very well! At her age, she will definately make it big. And she already has :) Keep up the great work charice and keep impressing the whole world. You've worked hard to get where you are now and you most definately deserve this! Just always stay humble and sweet as you are. GOD BLESS YOU & AND YOUR FAMILY!

David knows TRUE TALENT, and BEST singers and she is definately THE BEST! Jealousy kills so save your foolish comments to yourselves. :)

im son sorry to say this but charice is not a good singer...she just imporsunating all the singer...she didnt have her own style...i think shes not deserving to be famous...she just acting in front of many people...

Sorry my english, but I want explain about charice's dress. Commonly in asian countries, teen girls dress like her. You may see lot of children in big cities dress like Western children (because they watch Disney channel ...), but Charice come from a small,poor city.

I remember celine when she was young she was nearly as good as this girl. This girl though is phenomenal. She is as good as celine taking age gap into consideration.

Sorry Ms. Rae Lynne Morvay, but I have to disagree with you. She is singing from her diaphragm and not nasal cavity nor abdomen. Hence that amount of power and timbre that comes out of her small frame. For a small girl to maintain a timbre and power like that without the child's voice coming out does also require a huge lung capacity, skill and talent. And I'd say she's also capable of 2 hour performances herself. For hasn't she been singing since she was 4 years old and sometimes for the survival of her family alone.....As David Foster said on the Oprah special on him yesterday, October 31st, "Charice is undeniable, she is the real deal." Sorry but he even likened her talent with the likes of Ms. Barbara Streisand herself and Ms. Celine Dion......
