Will the Dallas Cowboys See Another Season with Bill Parcells?
Rumors Are Now Flying All Over the NFL About the Retirement Plans of Bill Parcells
In 2004, the Cowboys posted a 6-10 record. This was Parcell's second season with only a slight improvement. In 2005 the Cowboy's rebounded with a 9-7 record. Under his direction, the N.Y. Jets (1997-99)-who won a combined four games the two seasons prior to his arrival-improved to 9-7 his first season and 12-4 with a trip to the AFC Championship Game. This success marked the first time in NFL history that a team had won one game and within two years was playing for a conference championship.
Does 2007 mark the year of retirement for Bill Parcells? Many are speculating that at the age of 65, Parcells will be looking to hang up his helmet. He has had a career that most can only dream about and few will ever surpass. Parcells played linebacker at Wichita State 1961-63. He later went on to coach college football at Hastings in1964, Wichita State in 1965, Army from 1966-69, Florida State from 1970-72, Vanderbilt from 1973-74, Texas Tech from 1975-77, and he became the head coach for Air Force in 1978. Parcells began his NFL head coaching career with the N.Y. Giants from 1983-1990. The Giants, had posted one winning season in its previous 10 years. After the initial campaign of 3-12-1, he improved the Giants win total to 9, 10, 14, 10, 12, and 13, all between 1984 and 1990. During this process, the Giants were able to take on two Super Bowl titles: Super Bowl XXI over Denver and Super Bowl XXV over Buffalo. Parcells took over the New England Patriots from 1993-96, following a 2-14 season by the Patriots. It only took Parcells two seasons to bring the Patriots to a 10-6 mark and their first playoff game in eight years! Parcells fourth season brought the Patriots to an 11-5 record and sent them to Super Bowl XXXI against Green Bay.
There are rumors that Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has not been happy with the performance of Bill Parcells, in this last season. The speculation is, that Jerry Jones may call for the retirement of Bill Parcells after this season. This is the same move that he made with Coach Tom Landry in 1988. One thing is for certain, after the Seattle Seahawks won the Wild Card game by one point, Jones will make changes. Where those changes will be...remains to be seen. It would be a great loss to see Bill Parcells leave the Dallas Cowboys. He has brought character, class, pride and respect back to the Cowboys franchise.
