The days of having crayons, and pencils be the main staple on back to school lists have come and gone. Nowadays the focus seems to be more on having electronic devices. For example many teachers feel that all students need to have access to a computer in order to complete many of their assignments. Some schools are even requiring students to have iPad's. Of course with the economy not getting any better in the near future this can be very difficult for some parents. Budgets are already strapped pretty tightly.
So what is the main reason behind this sudden lean towards technology? Well, actually it has been taking over the school systems a lot quicker than many parents even realize. Their is more technology used in the classroom nowadays then ever before. Many classrooms including the elementary ones have computers located in them. Of course so far it seems that only private schools have gone as far as to require the parents pay for some type of electronic device. You can read more about that by clicking here.
What about public schools? Well I have not seen or heard any teachers requesting that parents add any electronic device to their shopping list just yet. However, many parents have found that internet access is required during the course of the year to complete some assignments. This is especially the case for older children on the high school level. Let's face it our kids our growing up in the world of technology so this is to be expected. Even if it is not something that is mandatory for back to school time it is important to make sure that your child has access to the items that you need. If you can't afford a computer for your home, perhaps you can go to your local library so that your child can use the computers that they have available there. It may also prove to be beneficial to consider getting a computer if you don't have one. During the back to school season lots of stores have deals on computers. All you need is a basic computer with nothing fancy. So do you think that your child's back to school list will change as they get older? After speaking with several college students I found out that electronics are a must have for them, so even if it is not on a high school level, it may be soon.
