Will a Female Team Finally Win The Amazing Race?

C.A. Jacobs
No female team has ever won The Amazing Race. But Season 17 could change all that with some very strong contenders. This season there are four female team on The Amazing Race. Andie and Jenna, a birth mother and her daughter who have recently been reunited; Brook and Claire, home shopping television hosts; Katie and Rachel, beach volleyball players; and Nat and Kat, both physicians. Which of these four all female teams is the strongest? We'll breakdown each of the teams for you.

The Amazing Race - Andie and Jenna
Andie DeKroon and Jenna Sykes are a mother-daughter team with a twist. Andie is Jenna's birth mom who only recently connected with each other. Having just met, they don't have a clue of what each other's strengths and weaknesses are and this could come into play on many of the challenges. Andie and Jenna will have to rely on their individual strengths to make it far in the race. Look for this team to only last a few weeks into the race.

The Amazing Race - Brook and Claire
Brook Roberts and Claire Champlin co-host a home shopping television show in San Diego, California. Claire will forever be remembered as the "melon girl." In the premier episode, one of the Amazing Race challenges involved catapulting a small watermelon to knock down a suit of armor. Brook tells Claire, "Right in the kisser. Show that knight who's boss." Unfortunately for Claire, one of those melons came back and hit her smack in the face. It was Brook that told her they had to keep going to stay in the race. An incredulous Claire, bucked up and finished the challenge allowing the pair to make a respectable showing, fourth place, on the first leg of the race. Brook and Claire are over-confident, and can be somewhat annoying, but hopefully they'll stick around for a while for their comedic appeal.

The Amazing Race - Katie and Rachel
Katie Seamon and Rachel Johnston are beach volleyball partners from New Jersey. Besides their good looks, Katie and Rachel are athletic, smart and will go far in the race, if not take the coveted million dollar prize. Both girls are very close with their families, and fear the distance from them is one of their biggest challenges. Katie and Rachel finished the first leg of the race in the middle of the pack, fifth place. But if they take a clue from past winners and stay under the wire in regards to the other contestants, they will emerge as one of the finalists.

The Amazing Race - Nat and Kat
Nat Strand and Kat Chang are two physicians who will give Katie and Rachel a run for the money. They're smart, well-educated, attractive and performed well on the first leg of the race coming in second. Their two biggest obstacles are their navigation skills and the fact that Nat is a Type 1 Diabetic. Nat needs to check her blood sugar level on a regular basis as well as snack regularly to keep her condition under control. Often on the race, contestants have to go long hours without eating. Being that they are both doctors, they will be more diligent about making sure Nat does what is needed to remain strong through the duration of the race.

Nat and Kat as well as Katie and Rachel look like they are strong teams to make it to the finals. Time will tell.

The Amazing Race airs on CBS 8 p.m/7 p.m. central.
