Will God Accept My Thanks on Thanksgiving?

Pablo Diaz
During this time of year everyone is giving thanks for all fortunate things that have pleased them in their life. We give thanks for our jobs, for our family, for our health, for material things like cars and houses; I believe, however, that we should thank God for letting us live another day.

Now, we can thank God all we want for all the things we have on Thanksgiving, but what if we haven't accepted Christ? What happens if we are thanking God for all the good things he's given us but we haven't accepted his son's sacrifice? Would we look sincere, just, or even worthy of giving thanks in God's eyes? Would God accept our gratefulness? What if someone who has Christ in their life and has accepted him as their Lord and Savior, what if that person thanks God? Will God accept his gratefulness over someone who has not been saved?

Let's look at it this way, I'm not saying this is right but just try to comprehend this point I will try to make.

Say you have a son and that son of yours goes into the world, does NOT do anything wrong all of his life, does good deeds to people and teaches good things. This son of yours gets prosecuted and is sentenced to death, but does NOT complain because he knows that the prosecutors are wrong and don't know any better. This son, whom you love so much, gives his life to make those that impure, pure in your eyes.

Now, after this your son has passed away, he is resurrected and tells those that followed him that through him is the only way those impure people can be cleansed and seen in YOUR eyes. This is what happened with God and Jesus Christ. Imagine, someone thanking you for helping them in their time of need but they chose not to accept your son as their Savior. It has been clearly stated that your son is the only way to make that person pure in your eyes, will you accept their "thanks?"

In the other hand, there is a person that was not so good before they knew about your son. This person did bad things; he stole, lied and had more than one wife. After this person heard your son's word, he decided to accept your son as his Savior and was cleansed in your presence because of it. Now, this person gives you thanks for all the good you have done to him. Would you rather accept this person's "thanks" over the one who has not accepted your son as their Savior?

We will never know what God is going to do. We will never know what God feels ahead of time. One thing though, God will see that person that accepted Jesus Christ as a better candidate to follow him. Jesus was clear about it, he gave his life to make us clean. If we accept him as our Savior, God will accept us into his kingdom. Not only will he accept us into his kingdom, but he will accept our thanksgiving to him rather than that of someone who does not have Christ as their Savior.

I'm not the one who says this; Jesus Christ says in the Bible that we will all be saved through him. All we have to do is accept him into our lives and do good deeds. We should not sin after we accepted Christ, and if by any chance we do sin, we have to humiliate ourselves in God's presence and repent.

This Thanksgiving, make sure you thank God. Thank God for all he has given you. Remember though, God will accept everyone's thanks, but he will rather accept the thanks from someone who accepted his Son as their Savior. Jesus Christ is the way:

"I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture." [John 10:9]

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." [John 14:6]

A verse from the Bible states:

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." [Psalm 100:4]

Another verse states that we should thank God:

"I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus." [1 Corinthians 1:4]

Notice that the verse says "his grace given you in Christ Jesus." Give thanks to God but remember that Jesus Christ died for you, to clean you of all sin so you will be seen clean in God's eyes. If you don't have Jesus Christ as your Savior, chances are that God will not accept your thanks.

Keep that in mind during the Thanksgiving holiday.
