Will Hannah Montana's Miley Cyrus Become the Next Britney Spears?
Now I am not a parent, nor am I a tween, so I am not the best source on all things Miley Cyrus. However, as a teacher education student, and a former teenager, I am in the know, at least somewhat. In fact, the other day in one of my education classes, the topic of Hannah Montana got brought up. One of my classmates remarked that she hates Hannah Montana and that Miley Cyrus will turn into the "next Britney Spears". Which begs the question, with all this popularity so fast, so young, will Miley Cyrus become a train wreck in five years?
Cyrus and Spears do bear similarities. Both are singers; both were raised in the South. Both started their careers in that loveable, bubble gum pop genre. However, that's where the similarities end.
Yes, both Spears and Cyrus did get their start with Disney as well; however, the circumstances are too different to really consider them "similarities". Spears performed with many other singers and actors on MMC, the New Mickey Mouse Club. However at this time she was only eleven and never really stood out from the other talents. After all, she was performing with Keri Russell, JC Chasez, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake. It took a few more years until Spears launched her solo career, without help from Disney.
Cyrus got her start on Hannah Montana, and has risen to fame because of her Disney alter ego. Her character is very clean-cut, as is her music. By the time Britney Spears became popular, she was already known for her provocative, midriff exposing apparel. As time progressed, her outfits got raunchier. Britney Spears never was a role model to young girls; rather, she was a teenage boy's fantasy date. There is no rationale for why Miley Cyrus would go from clean-cut to slut. After all, she is 15 now, and still decently modest. At 16, Britney was already posing in her infamous ...Baby One More Time Catholic schoolgirl outfit.
One final difference between Spears and Cyrus is their upbringing. Cyrus was raised by country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, who knew what the limelight consisted of. To this day, Cyrus still acts with her dad and is often seen on talk shows with him. It is apparent that he is hoping to guide her in the right direction. Seriously, those Bratz dolls are worse influences than Hannah Montana. And they're dolls.
It's no secret that Britney's parents have had trouble with their daughter. I don't blame them necessarily; they were launched into Hollywood without any time to prepare. But their absence was apparent; I know darn well I wouldn't let my 17-year old daughter pose on the cover of Rolling Stone in her bra and panties.
While I don't care about Miley Cyrus that much, because as a grown woman, why should I?, I will defend her. I don't think she will be the next Britney Spears, for it takes a rare, mentally instable breed to be Britney Spears. I do think that Miley Cyrus is a decent icon for today's teenagers. Hopefully, as her career progresses, she will become something more than a sex symbol and tabloid fodder.

Miley Cyrus' New clothing line is VERY skimpy... That is what my mother is saying. I like miley, but her new album has nothing but BAD words. I am 11 years old gonna B 12. Miley Cyrus is begining to follow Brittney Spears' Footsteps. She dresses very reveling. I'm not the best speller... Hannah Montana is ANNOYING. But i like the show. The show is amusing and entertaining. So she is following brittney spears footsteps and is gonna be just like her in a couple of months maybe.

i think all of the comments are unorganized and irrational. If everyone would sit down and write something appropiate and less primitive, you will recognize peoples paradigm a bit more. Hannah Montannah IS Miley Cyrus, I don't see the appeal to having two names. Which i find quite humorous when all of her worshipping fans(most of them ages 4 to 16) are deeply affended when you bring up some of her malodorous points. Lets face it, she posesses no talent, the only reason she is "famous" is because of her father( who is starved for talent as well) All of those stars i.e. rhianna ,brittany, miley, even sweet little selena gomez(wizzards of waverlyplace) are just manafactured by producers and the reccord companies. Their lives are not real, they live in their own hollywood world, no matter how much the media magazines beg to differ in such magazines as "star"( also fake). We live in the reality to me, they dont have real jobs, Miley shouldn't be paid to lip sync. so dont buy all the garba

i totally understand mellisa's comment, because miley is a huge influence, but she most probably will become the next britney. my proof is the media. they made a rumor about miley being pregnant when she was 14.... the media does follow britney alot around too, miley might get under stress, and do things britney did. even miley's attitude is bad, and she even show's it on her shows. and again, she might get under alot of stress esspecially having two different identities, hannah montana and miley cyrus.
BTW: im not against britney spears, infact i ¢¾ her songs and i totally support her and wish the best for her.. i also love miley not hannah though
