Will Harry Die or is This a Publishing Stunt to Gain More Publicity?

The Great Harry Potter Conspiracy

David E. Barnett
July 21st has not come upon us yet, but Harry Potter fans are still waiting anxiously to see if the boy wizard may, yet again, escape the clutches of the dark Lord Voldemort. Then again, after all of the hype that has been recently been put out due to a leak in the publishing company that handles J.K. Rowling, there may be a chance that everyone's beloved character may die. If this is truly the case, then why haven't those who have followed the books simply accepted that fact?

The controversy surrounding this issue has been enormous, and the outcropping of Harry Potter enthusiasts, both young and old, web site owner and the like has been unsurpassed as each atempt to give their best predictions of what could happen. But, before we actually begin looking into this dreadful possibilty, we have a long list of suspects that could very well meet an unfortunate fate other than our beloved Harry, and there are also a great many things that have not been examined due to the simple fcat that now that the possibilty of Harry's death is out there, the fans may have accidentally neglected other characters that could prove as either a threat or potential hazard to Voldemort's reign. Whether they simply be powerful wizards and witches that may have the ability to against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, or those that are particularly close to Harry, who would walk through fire for him and he for them. There may also be those that are a sort of 'Achilles' Heel' for our young hero, as there is still one that most have forgotten about that could prove to be the most damaging for our hero, who is already struggling within himself to keep his own darker desires for revenge against his arch-nemesis in check.

Shall we start from the very beginning to remember the prophecy. Two possibilities were to be chosen from within this prophecy. The one chosen by Voldemort was Harry Potter, who at such a young age was only marked with the curse of a scare versus the death that would have been bestowed upon him if it were not for the love of his parents. If we think about what has been revealed in books over the series, each time that Voldemort killed, he had the opportunity to place half of the remaining soul within him into something else. Could we not say that it could go into 'someone' instead? Thus in order to truly remove Voldemort from existance is to completely remove the pieces that hold pieces of his soul, thus concluding that Harry Potter must die. However, with that in mind, would it be not safe to say Harry may not die, as the prophecy did not specify whom it exactly was that would perish. All that was said, generally, is that one could not survive without the other. Would it not be safe to say then, that there may be other possibilities?

Let us consider the prophecy one more time. This is referring to one Neville Longbottom, whom was considered as the person for the second possibility. Thus, can we say truly that when Voldemort chose to pursue Harry, that he made the choice correctly or wisely. Thus with the prophecy, it is as much as a mystery as it is to any other follower of the series. In consideration, was Harry the true chosen one, or will it be Neville that stands up and follow through on helping Voldemort find what otherwise would be less than an happy ending.

Shall this bring us to the, lack for better words, cliche ending, where the good guy always wins. Shall Voldemort finally end with what should be an all-true victory for the good guy. Or, will Harry ultimately meet his fate in his attempts to oust Voldemort from power, leaving Voltemort's life to carry on with less than what is truly desired, the ultimate power.

With all the limitless possibilities, there are too many variables to actually make a refined decision on who shall die. It has already been proven that Voldemort would stop at nothing, and take down anyone who would have the audicity to stand in his way. So, what is the point of all the hype. It takes away the true measure of enjoyment from the works that we like to read. Before we begin the conjecture, maybe it would best be said that "all good things come to those who wait." With all being said, in order to remain credible fans and enthusiests, it would be best to simply one thing, wait and read the book.
