When Rowling was asked directly if Harry Potter dies in the final book, she neither confirmed nor denied the possibility. It is difficult to guess how Rowling decided to tie up the loose ends of the Harry Potter chronicles. However, there are a few reasons why she would choose to kill him off, as well as an equal number of reasons why she would not choose to let him die.
Here are a few reasons why J.K. Rowling probably chose not to kill off Harry Potter in this book:
1. Characters have a very special place in the heart of the author who creates them. Harry Potter certainly has an even more special place in J.K. Rowling's heart than he has in the reader's heart.
2. Many Harry Potter fans are children. The children have grown to love Harry Potter and it would be somewhat cruel to kill him now.
3. Authors rarely kill the main character.
Reasons why J.K. Rowling might have chosen to kill off Harry Potter:
1. She could make him into a martyr. Sacrificing Harry Potter for the good of all would make Harry an eternal hero in the mind of many a reader.
2. Letting Harry Potter die would be a tragic, but realistic, ending.
3. Killing him would not have to mean he is gone forever. The world of the Harry Potter books is filled with ghosts; it is not unreasonable to expect Harry could become some ghostly guide (think Obi Wan and Yoda from Star Wars).
That said, I don't believe J.K. Rowling will let Harry Potter die. It is just my guess, nothing more, and is based simply on my own feelings; I could never let a character like that die--at least I don't think I could.
I do believe she will have Voldemort killed. In that battle one of the other kids may die--but I would be more inclined to say that Snape dies. In fact, perhaps he dies trying to save Harry (this is all just guesswork. If I am right, it is sheer coincidence).
We will all have to wait until July to find out what happens. Until then, it is fun to speculate. J.K. Rowling's creative story-telling abilities captured the attention of more fans than she had ever dreamed. I doubt that the final Harry Potter book will be a disappointment. I am confident that we will find she brings the necessary closure to the series.

Post a CommentI never thought harry could die, however i always thought that he would come close to death while fighting with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named but that he would kill him and harry potter would survive and be the hero, nevertheless it is quite understandable for harry to be killed seeing as how j.k Rowling does not want her story to be continued and by killing harry she would therefore protect that from happening..ten days to go, and i cant wait !!!
He so better die! I know people talk about "Someone who's overcome all the boundaries and difficulties in life... what kind of moral message will it gives the kids if he dies".. My answer: Life's not fair - Suck it up.
Interesting theories, it's so fun to speculate. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
I can not imagine why she would kill him, but you never know about writers!
LOL Aly
NOOOO! He can't die - he has to appear at the new theme park.
Thanks everyone :). I think a lot of adults will cry if he does! lol
I anticipate a lot of crying kids if he dies
The jury is out, but you present some food for thought. Either way, I'm sure he will come very very close and it promises to be a dark tale!
Harry will not die. I have thought Snape might die protecting Harry as well. I don't think Ron or Hermione will die. I think Neville is a potential character who could die. Also, what about Malfoy and his cronies? At least one bad guy has to die.
