Will the iPhone Hurt or Help a Cheater?

How Does New Technology Factor in Relationships?

The issue of cheating is a hot topic in today's hustle and bustle world, so I can't help but wonder, "Can you really trust the person you're involved with?" According to researchers, Buss and Shackelford, 30 to 60% of all U.S. married couples will find themselves trapped weaving a web of infidelity at some point after saying "I do". Do you continue to live in a state of ignorant bliss ever-wondering, "Are they cheating on me?" It seems like a simple question, but the answer may be hidden under layers of technological deceit, until now.Yesterday, I was minding my own business by going through my boyfriend's iPhone photos. (Calm down, I was looking for a photo he'd taken of my friend's little girl) But I noticed something new; with the latest iPhone software update, users are now able to map the geographical location of where a specific photo was taken. I saw red pin marks pop up and note where he's been actively taking photographs. I saw a pin marking Minneapolis and thought, "When was he there?" Then I clicked on the red mark which gave me a catalog of all the photos taken in Minneapolis. It was me, at the airport-sitting right next to him during a nasty lay-over. I did more research, which means, I kept poking around his phone.

This led me to call a friend who lives in New Jersey and asked him to send me a photo taken in his home. Being the pet-lover that he is, I quickly got a photo of his bulldog, Boris, refreshing himself in a kiddie pool. I added it to my library but guess what? No red pin-mark to catalog the pooch in the pool photo which means your phone will only track photos you've taken.

As a dating, relationship and sex blogger, my mind started racing and then it cringed. Will people dating or married to iPhone users start the trend of checking their mate's photos to verify where they've been? Those of you who don't have an iPhone, we users tend to photo and video almost everything in our lives due to the social media adage, if it's not on Twitter, Facebook, Twitpic or YouTube, it never happened!

I personally wonder if a cheating partner would actually do something so stupid as to take photos or video of their affair? But the latest gossip magazine will quickly answer that, need I mention the cheating scandal that was Tiger Woods? Even though the photos were not on Tiger's phone, they were on someone's phone who later used them to their fullest extent. So in a world filled with questions about infidelity, how do you find the right answers? Do you continue to live with doubt or do you, instead, reach for their iPhone?
