Will Marvel Survive in the Hands of Disney?

So Marvel has been purchased, huh? Y'know what that might mean is that you might lose forever some of the gritty terms of fandome that Marvel has created for over sixty years. I couldn't believe my ears this morning when I heard out that Marvel was bought out. Bought - out, if that is such a thing. I mean, afterall, they were previousilly owned by Toy Biz. But now I am worried that I was feeling that Marvel was finally start to earn some true independency with themselves. I am mainly thinking about these recent string of Avengers-era characters and how they would finally all be able to appear with one another in the film business. AND finally, they could hopefully stock making cheap production houses of Marvel films that hardly stayed true to the franchise. Yes, I am mainly talking about Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Fours, original Punisher, Hulk, Dardevil, Elektra and this big squeeze that Fox is dripping out of the X-men film series. I had great hopes they washed away the stains of some of those films and make their characters to the screen like they are suppossed to be: Like Frog Man with Spidey like they did in the '70s.

But I am curious if such fans were this disappointed when DC comics got purchased by another rival multi-billion dollar production and entertainment powerhouse Time Warner or possibly even back of the days of just Warner Bros. He wouldn't have had the great 78 Superman brought to the screen with such great production value. BUT did the conglomerate giant help out production on the comic department? How involved are they with some of their hugest sellers and storlyines, like Final Crisis or the marketing gimmick of Superman's death in the 90's. Will Disney help OR hinder now that Marvel is in it's hands? Will Disney support the fact of Super Hero island at Universal Studios Flordia is full of all Marvel licencsed characters? I mean, they'll be like competing against themselves with their Disney theme parks, or perhaps they are can shell out huge amounts of royalties to the Grand Mouse.

I can tell you that I am really interested to see what Disney's long line of animation history can do to the Marvel Studios. Which had quite a few hits and misses in the animation department of the years, and a bunch of direct to video releases have a bit of anime flair to them. But now let's see what Pixar or a small brand of traditional animators could whip up. And we also got the Buena Vista distribution line, which if you are like me, have paid quite a bit extra for the super special anniversay editions of several releases of the same films a few times. "OOh Pete's Dragon and Robin Hood!" SO one can assume that all Marvel dvd's will be released on super collector's editions and/or released under the universal Disney Blu Ray brand that they are slowly adapting to their large catalogue of movies. And I like to to think that any DVD set that has Leonard Maltin in it, is WELL worth an investment. Especially since Maltin is such a Disney Geek. Yeah, I had to read his book on the history of animation for class - the man is quite versed in animationerdology

SO, I'd like to leave you all with, so what do you think: "What are the pros and cons of the Disney buy of Marvel? Will the giant prove to help or hinder Marvel entertainment?"
