Will Nicolas Cage's Financial Woes Make Him a Good Actor?

With "actor" Nicolas Cage Broke, Fans May Expect to See Better Quality

Nicolas Cage's immense financial woes have been widely covered as of recent. Whether or not Cage's former business manager Samuel Levin is responsible for his massive debts, the major question on people's mind is whether they will get better acting quality for their dollar.

Nicolas Cage has starred in more than 60 films, some of which were good. I think most people will agree that Face/Off was not terrible, the Rock and Con-Air were good, and who can forget Nick in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Hey, National Treasure was really entertaining. However, all the true movie lovers know that 50 out of Cage's 60 movies have been complete duds.

Untrue? Simply refer to Nicolas Cage's filmography and ask yourself how many you own against how many you have rented/seen in theatre. Ghost Rider, Windtalkers, Next, Sonny, 8MM, and Knowing are sure to make this list. And my prayers to those poor saps who saw Captain Corelli's Mandolin (I am always saying movies need more mandolin).

Of course, Cage can not be blamed for all of these movies' failures; however, most will agree that his acting skill does not live up to his wild success. A great comparison for Nicolas Cage would be Keanu Reeves. They are both not the worst actors in the world, but they are paid like they are the best (Keanu Reeves is estimated to be worth about $270 million while Al Pacino is around $170 million).

Even if much of his career has been a blockbuster sell-out flop, Nicolas Cage is only 45 years old with plenty of time to redeem himself. Next year is quite promising, Nicolas Cage is projected in 2010 to star in Season of the Witch, Kick-Ass, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

The plots of each movie seem to have potential. Season of the Witch is set in the 14th Century, and Nicolas Cage is a crusader who must transport a witch to a group of monks in the hope if ending the Black Plague...not bad... Kick-Ass is about a lonely teenage boy who becomes a real-life superhero inspired by comic books...could be good...The Sorcerer's Apprentice is about a college student taken under the wing of a sorcerer in modern Manhattan...like Harry Potter meets Sex and the City? Who am I kidding...it is the same blockbuster Cage we all get excited to rent once and return early.

Is his financial ruin acting karma? Of course not, that is a terrible, terrible thing to say. We all hope he gets his money in order. If anything, his ruin is but a warning to Paul Walker, Tom Cruise, Steven Seagal, Ben Affleck, Van Damme. For the rest of you terrible actors with loads of cash, beware!
