Will Pete Carroll Have Success in Seattle?

Evan Salveson
At USC, Pete Carroll was known as a "player's coach." Will that style of coaching be successful in Seattle? Part of the reason he was let go as head coach of New England was due to the fact that he lost control of the locker room. Players were getting in trouble with the law and Carroll even held team basketball games after practice which he played in.

Chest bumping 30 year old men will not make the Seahawks better. Will Carroll be able to recognize that this team needs structure and consistency? He must gain the respect of the players if he's going to lead the Seahawks back to dominance. Success doesn't always mean you can be everyone's friend. One of the major criticisms about Jim Mora was that he was not consistent. Pete Carroll must pick a stance and stick to it. People want consistency from their leader. There will be no success without consistency from the coach.

The Seahawks realistically are 4-5 new players away from having the talent to win the NFC West in 2010. Pete Carroll can evaluate high school talent almost like no other, but how will that translate into evaluating college talent and free agents? Players such as Deion Branch and Patrick Kerney have been major flops as free agent signings and Seattle can ill-afford anymore free agent busts.

No one has a crystal ball to see into the future and determine if Pete Carroll will be successful in Seattle. As hard as it might be to hear, but this team will not get better overnight. This will be a rebuilding effort and patience will be needed. Carroll needs 2-3 years to prove himself and the fans need to give him that time.
