Will "Skins" America on MTV Delight or Disappoint?

"Skins," a British teen drama that began airing in 2007, has found its way across the pond to the United States. This new project, which will air on MTV in two weeks' time, has brought on much speculation from fans. The original series is chock full of sex, love, and drugs, and I am one of many fans left wondering how much this new series is going to be censored. HBO might have been a channel more suited for the show. And just when we were left thinking that the show was going to be nothing like its original, the trailer for the American "Skins" presented itself.

Word for word, the trailer for the new series of "Skins" seems to trace itself directly from the British series. Many viewers have questioned if this copycat trailer is a joke or an impending train wreck, but according to AfterEllen.com, Bryan Elsey, the creator of "Skins," has been insistent that the new series will introduce new characters and stories. While Tony and Michelle seem to be the same couple from the first series, Sid, Cassie, and Anwar are now Stanley, Cadie, and Abbud. And then there's Tea, the lesbian cheerleader who is replacing Maxxie, the gay dancer.

For those who are skeptical about the American "Skins," take into account that this new series is still using a teen advisory group much like the original series did. According to the creators, this group of real teens enables the show to gain perspective on what it's like to be a teenager in this day and age.

Will you tune in on January 17 to see if this show will sink or swim? I haven't decided yet, but I might be tempted to check out the show at least once during the season.

The show sounds stupid but I love the phrase "across the pond"
