'Will Smith Makes an Action Film Get Jiggy with It' - Men in Black : the Album

The Bottom Line: Not All There but Has Music Thats Great

I heard the MIB inspired soundtrack before I watched the movie. At that time a friend informed me of an interesting fact, that most of the music in this album was not in the movie. I was surprised by this fact. I wondered, if this a soundtrack how can it hold music that is not in the movie? I guess simply put, the idea is to create another product that will sell. Good for them if that helps them progress. Now I only worry of the rest any other inspired album. Imagine someone selling soap and then they follow its sale by putting out an album inspired by that soap. Only in the movies I say.

Now with that said, lets get to the point. Is the music good? Will you like it? These songs are not in the movie but should they be in my car? My conclusion is that if your deeply enticed by R&B and hip hop, then this is a c.d. you should check out.

Up ahead is an overview of what you can expect if you
purchase.. MIB: The Album

1. MEN IN BLACK by Will Smith [3:45]

Unless at the release date of this song you were in living under a rock or under cedation, there is no way that you have not heard this song. It was played on the radio more than times than Madonna decides to change her look. This is the ultimate movie song. This song allows WIll Smith to advertise his song and be self indulgent all at the same time. Is it catchy? Well, it reels us in and keeps our attention just enough to have it stuck in our head.

2. WE JUST WANNA PARTY WITH YOU [4:31]
by Snoop Dogg feauting JD

This song is by far the best of the whole bunch. It is the ultimate party song. If their is no one dancing, this song with defenetly put bodies on that dance floor. Snoop Dogg is arguably one of the best rappers around. Saying that hes good is an under statement. Here he demostrates his uncanny ability to smoothly rap as well as entertain.

3. IM FEELING YOU by Genuwine [4:39]

I think I might be the only one who truly thinks that too many songs are being writen about one night stands. What can I do? I guess just listen to them. (Im too lazy to do something about it... ) This song is relaxing and quite melo. Very pleasant to all listening ears. If your bothered by the lyrics then skip this one as I do.

4. DAH DEE DAH by Alicia Keys

Dont you just love it when you become a fan of an artist before they hit it big? I do. This is exactly how I feel about when I think of this song. When I first heard this song I had no idea who Alicia Keys was. I only knew that I liked her songs (or at least the songs that I could find) A few years later others came to realise what I already knew, that she could make good music. That is shown in this song. This song is one that relaxes you. It is by far one of the best in this c.d.

5.JUST CRUISIN by Will Smith [3:59]

This song is basically a way for Will Smith to make his head bigger than it already is. Yet regardless of all his self indulgence, this is a great to just bounce your head to. This song is ideal for umm just cruisin.

6. THE 'NOTIC by The Roots feauting D'Angelo [5:20]

This song is hypnotic in its beats. The beat repetitions produce a trance over you. Its very enjoyable. It also has a twentysecond piano piece at the end wich is actually the best part of all.

7. MAKE YOU HAPPY by Trey Lorenz [4:06]

This is the best lyrical and best song of this c.d. Sensualy charged it delivers excatly what the song speaks about... pleasure. Musical pleasure ofcourse. Not like the song wich speaks of a different type of pleasure. (Ill leave that implied)

8. ESCOBAR '97 by NAS [3:31]

NAS is great at rapping. That is just goes with out saying. His flows are rear and pleasant as well as his rants. The only bad thing is that inbetween all these other songs it gets sort of lost in the shuffle.

9. EROTIC CITY [4:34]

This song is not worth even the few seconds that your reading this. It is repetive in a harmful form. It is basically a rave reject song.

10. SAME OL'THING by A Tribe Called Quest

This is what I love about having compilation albums. The fact that you can hear a group and sample what their music is like. Music that you would not check out on your own. This rap group pulled me in right from the start. Smooth force, all brought with sharp beats. Its a delite to your ears as well as your imagination.

11. KILLING TIME by Destinys Child [5:07]

This is the norm. in R&B music. Nothing out of the usuall soulfullness. I dont hate it but at the same this its like a bug who just sits in your room : You dont want it in there but it aint bothering you. (sorry.. i didnt get it eighter) Im indeferent about it.

12. WAITING FOR LOVE [3:46]
13. CHANEL NO. FEVER [3:25]
14. SOME COW FONQUE [5:09]

I really do believe that all of these song up above are just songs to add extra tracks. Their in a scence good for holding space but not necessarily to listen to.

15. MIB MAIN THEME
16. MIB CLOSING THEME

These songs are more out of place than Eminem at Mobys party. With out douth they are good pieces of music. With that said its kind of hard for me to listen to these songs after had listened to likes of Will Smith, Alicia Keys, and Snoop Dogg. Its hard to switch from R&B type music to suddenly instrumental pieces.

--------------
Conclusion
--------------

If you are looking for an albumb thats not all complete but full of hip hop and R&B then this is for you.
