Will Television Become Obsolete?

My Computer is All I Need!

Will computers start taking over television? I think its happening now! Remember the gold old days of just having cable television, or worse, not even having cable? Oh, the days of waiting until 5 o'clock for the local news to come on, of waiting for the morning paper to get national news, staying up until 11 at night to catch the weather forecast for the next day.

Not anymore. In fact, I rarely watch any television anymore, and its usually turned on to a cartoon station for the kids. I don't need to watch it, as everything I need, I can get from my pride and joy, my Sony Vaio computer with my 20-inch flatscreen moniter. Let me tell you why.

News. Want to see whats going on? Any home page will have at least a short list of the most popular news stories at any given moment. you can even have your computer set to a news home page so it pops up as soon as you turn on your computer. Try www.cnn.com, www.bbc.com, www.foxnews.com for national and late-breaking news. Most local news station also have their own websites that you can go to for local news around your town. Or just Google your city with news right after, and I guarantee you'll find what you need!

YouTube. The ultimate source for videos, clips, funny videos, and more. Do a search for anything and you'll find something related to what you want to see. Clips from an American Idol you missed? Look for it on YouTube. Want to see the latest Miss Teen USA pagents? You'll find them here. YouTube has tons of older and even newer commercials for your viewing pleasure, old show clips, news, and sometimes you'll even run across uploaded clips of tv shows, dramas, and sitcoms. You name it, and YouTube has it.

Discovery and Science Channels. Used to be, if you wanted to learn something, you had to watch tv or read a book. The Discovery Channel is one of those great shows that teach everything from space to science to planets. Now you can find those very shows online, at www.discovery.com or http://tlc.discovery.com/ . I used to watch A Baby Story when I was pregnant with my son. Now you can watch stuff on http://tlc.discovery.com/guides/family/family.html .Like NASA? We used to watch the NASA channel on TV. Now try http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/ for live images, pictures, and news stories. Any science topic, heck, any topic in the world, is now found on the 'net.

Movies. Sign up for Netflix at www.netflix.com and you can watch free movies online. There are many movie downloads that can be purchased per month on the computer for a small fee that allow you to download whole movies to their site. Vongo is one of those places, as I downloaded a great deal of movies for the month of service I tried.

All I need in enetertainment I have found within the beauty of my computer. Will I give up my TV? No, not yet. But its become more background noise than anything!
