A press release issued by the NJ Department of Labor on April 21st only mentions the EUC deadline being extended into June and does not offer any information regarding a fifth tier. I then spoke to Jason Lager, who works for Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-NJ 8th district), regarding any news on a fifth extension of EUC. Lager told me that so far, no bill has yet to be introduced into Congress regarding a fifth extension, but that should it happen, he was sure the Congressman would support it. Pascrell serves on the Ways and Means Committee in Congress.
However, according to a report on The Examiner website, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY). wrote a letter to one of his constituents regarding a possible Tier V. This is a quote from that letter:
Once I ensure that every New Yorker receives the full 99 weeks to which they are entitled, I will work with my colleagues to create a fifth tier of benefits.
Keep in mind that nothing is set in stone just yet and any proposal of a fifth extension of unemployment benefits will likely be met with a fierce debate in Congress from all sides of the political spectrum. But if Tier V does come to fruition, this would be good news for unemployed persons whose EUC extensions have been exhausted.
The difference between EUC vs Extended Benefits (EB)
People collecting unemployment in New Jersey who ran out of EUC extensions are now currently collecting what is known as Extended Benefits or EB. Unlike the EUC extensions, EB are given to the unemployed through the state of New Jersey and not the Federal government. The rules for filing EB are also more stringent than EUC. Persons collecting EB need to submit proof of looking for employment every week.
How does EB work?
When you get your EB claim form, there will be a yellow portion on the top of the page that will be detached and sent to Trenton. It will ask you where you have looked for a job, whom you spoke to, and what the result was. This form needs to be mailed on the Friday before you file for unemployment benefits. If you are in a state approved training program, please indicate this on the yellow form and you should be exempt from having to provide proof of looking for employment.
I'm on EB, what happens if a fifth extension is passed?
If a fifth extension of EUC benefits is passed, your EB benefits will be interrupted so you can collect the fifth extension. When the fifth extension is exhausted, you will pick up where you left off with EB provided you have money left over in that claim

Give the unemployed 15,000.00 each if are CURRENTLY ON one of the first 4 Tiers. Not the ones who have been receiving it for OVER TWO YEARS those are just lazy pepole. This would allow them to pay off some bills, save their homes, and have a new start on life. It also saves the US big money figure it up...compare their extended benefits after 99 weeks they are MORE money than this solution would cost the US...
Damn it why dont they just give us a damn 5th extension! I already getting kicked out of my place. Take care of us americans!!! We Need F_cking Help, Help us damn it!
We do need a tier V!! I have not had a check since March 27th and I am out of funds to work with. I am 61 and do not know what to do next. No one wants to hire me (age, of course). What do we do for food, bills, rent? A lot of us do not own homes!! Not giving us a tier V is only going to make the economy worse!! Our President needs to realize he has to help HIS OWN PEOPLE.. the ones that voted for him, or are supporting him now. He will certainly be in trouble in his re-election campaign, and I for one, certainly will not vote for a person who refuses to give help to us, when it is needed so desperately. We all want to find something and earn our own money, but it is not happening. Please help us and make a tier V and sustain us while we are still looking for work. The numbers of unemployed are higher every week, and that makes it worse for us "older folks." I beg you to stand up for us and give us the support we need. I feel like my dignity has been taken away, along with the loss of
I keep reading about tier 4 which took people into 99 weeks. I never got past tier 3. I received funds for a year. Now I am told no more funds for me. I am in a panic. Been trying for a year to get a job like millions of Americans. We help other countries and yet what about our own country that is spiraling into major poverty.
I might add, too, that if you haven't already noticed, all job notices are asking for (required Spanish speaking), and on applications, they ask if you are Spanish speaking. I know so many people who have a college degree and who are good workers, but they are unable to speak Spanish. Heaven forbid they're over 45, too. Reverse discrimination and preferential treatment is what I see. People who are out of work are good, decent people, and there's nothing wrong with them AT ALL! It's the employers....and the Congress...pandering to non-Americans...not their own. Again, shameful.
Yes, there needs to be an ongoing extension, just like welfare recipients. They don't have to hope and pray that their funds will be cut. But unemployment recipients have to really live on the edge. This is shameful. We need to help our own. These entitlement programs for Spanish speaking people are taking away from our own. As a Republican voter....looks like I'm going to have to change my allegiance. Sorry, Republicans, you are out!
time to go to the polls and vote out the republicans and afew democrats that have left too many americans without anyway to stay afloat
