Will a Third-party Candidate Ever Become President in the US?

I do not foresee a third-party candidate ever becoming President of the United States any time in the near future. America basically has three political parties within government. We have the Democrats, Republicans, and then there is everybody else. This may be a very broad generalization but the undeniable truth is that with the Democrats and Republicans there really is not much room for anybody else in our political world that we currently live in. Democrats and Republicans have a firm hold on voters throughout the United States. Other parties simply do not have what it takes to overcome the large gap between them and the blue and red.

The single biggest reason I feel that this will never happen, in my opinion, is simply financial. It almost the same concept of your hometown mom and pop store trying to compete with Wal-Mart. You like your local hometown store, most people in your town like your local store. They are more personable there and they know you better than any larger chain could ever know you. However, your little store is finding it harder to compete with the large retailer. It cannot keep it's prices low to compare, it cannot afford to advertise with the big guy. Your store is not even known three towns over. Before you know it your favorite local store goes out of business because they run out of money. I believe this same concept really applies to third party candidates.

Look at all the money that anyone of the candidates in the running on the Democratic or Republican side have already raised. The ones that are in last place still have raised more money than I have made in the five years! They get the endorsements from people that whether you agree with it or not have power. That can sway a lot of peoples thinking. Unfortunately third party candidates do not seem to be able to garner such finances and support.

To be able to succeed in politics today it is not about your party platform and how you plan to make this country a better place. It is about who has the most charisma and the deepest pockets. So far the two major party lines in America, Democrats and Republicans, are winning on both fronts.

Interesting story here..However you do have a point a independent Candidate will not have much of a chance...But with the direction of this country, and the way we are heading with the 2 parties..i would not count out an 3 party..right now the republicans are fighting among them selves..it will certainly be interesting to see how things work out in the future:)
