Will the New Twilight Movie Fail to Please Fans?

Mark Mielke
The Twilight book series is one of the most popular and best selling book series in the teenage world today. It has sold millions of copies and even has spawned a theatrical film. Reviews for the film were very contested. On one hand, many people were disappointed that the movie did not stick closer to the book series. But on the other hand, some people liked how the movie was portrayed and thought it did the series justice. The question at hand is whether or not the new movie coming up, New Moon, (Based on the second book of the same name) will be a great triumph for the Twilight sage, or an enormous failure.

The problem with New Moon is that it is generally the least favorite book in the Twilight series. Even among devoted fans, New Moon is not very popular. So that proposes some potential problems for the upcoming movie. The group who did not like the first movie very much will probably not like the second installment any better. Even those who liked the first movie may not enjoy New Moon because it is so disliked, even amongst fans. So what will happen if the movie is a box office failure? The consequences may be worse than you think.

Many fans already know that they don't like New Moon. This group of fans threatens to cut profits and ratings for the upcoming sequel. If New Moon is a failure in cinema, then the Twilight saga is facing serious problems. The lack of profit might mean that the third installment, Eclipse, might never be produced. This would mark the end of the Twilight saga. And even if Eclipse is produced after a New Moon failure, more problems present themselves. The next sequel may not have as big a budget due to the drop in profits from New Moon; therefore it may not have special effects or maybe even won't make it to the big screen and go directly to DVD. The second problem is that movie fans disappointed by New Moon may not see Eclipse out of expectations of similar disappointment. This, obviously, would present future budget problems for the fourth film, Breaking Dawn.

However, if New Moon is a success, like the first film, then interest in the series will be stronger than ever. The budget for the last two films will be better and may even deliver better movies than the first two. Who knows? If all four movies do that well, the author may even finish her fifth book, Midnight Sun. Whatever happens, one thing is certain. The success, or failure, of the New Moon movie will determine the future of the Twilight saga.
