Will You Watch the Video of Saddam Hussein's Execution?

Sin Lucas
No matter what you thought of him, Saddam Hussein was a person. He lived, he breathed and last week he died. He was executed by hanging for crimes against humanity. This man was a ruthless dictator and he was behind hundreds if not thousands of deaths and now his death is on display.

A cell phone video of Hussein's hanging has been leaked on the internet. The 2:37 video is uncut, unlike the videos that you've seen on television up until now, which stop right before the execution.

After hearing the video was leaked, I went online to see if I could find it. It took me all of 10 seconds. All I had to do was go the popular video sharing site, You Tube.

Once I got to You Tube I typed in Saddam Hussein in the search form. A lot of results came back including the uncut footage that I was looking for. As soon as I clicked on the link I was greeted with a disclaimer, "This video may contain content that is inappropriate for some users, as flagged by You Tube's user community." You then get the message, "To view this video, please verify you are 18 or older by logging in or signing up." Since I am older then 18, (don't even think about asking, I'm not telling) and I have a You Tube account I signed in and there it was, the video that shows the last minutes of Saddam Hussein's life.

All of a sudden it became too much. I mean it's one thing to watch someone being led to the gallows and hung in a movie. It's not real. As soon as the director says "cut" that actor or actress goes off and has lunch, but this was not the case. Saddam didn't get up and say, "Nice going guys, I like how that went, let's try it again tomorrow." He's gone, there is no coming back.

On cnn.com they have a brief report about the cell phone video and they ask people out on the street what they think about it. Some said, "He was a ruthless killer, who cares?" And others say, "Despite what he did he's still a human being and his death shouldn't be on display."

So, after my experience, I thought I would come ask you, readers and CP's alike, do you think it should be on the internet? Do you think you could watch it? Do you think that anyone should be watching it?

what about all the poeple he killed did they get a private death? i think if you are willing to deny others the right you should not recieve it yourself. good riddance...

I saw it without trying to. I think showing it is sick. I too believe that he was a human being who deserved to die in private. Not because he was a good man, but because he was a man. Human rights apply even to the most inhumane. He died with dignity - now he should rest in the hell he asked for.

Not watching it. I've never had an interest in snuff films.

Whether someone is a horrible person or not (and he was HORRIBLE), we should never celebrate the death of another life. Even if they deserved it or not.

After hearing about it, curosity got the best of me and I went and watched it a few days ago. Even though this Saddam was a horrible human being it almost made me cry and I got sick to my stomach watching it. It only shows him fall and then gets a close up after they cut him down. It was disturning to watch though.

There are many people who may be interedted in watching the video for various reasons. Some may just like to see real and uncut footage, no matter what the content is. I haven't had any interest in watching the video.

There are truly two debates here... the first, did he deserve to die for his crimes? And that is irrelevant to the second, the video. I understand the need to SEE something in order to believe it, and for many families who suffered under his rule, I can understand an almost NEED to not only hear of his death, but to see it. Does that make publishing it on the 'net right? No. But it's just a fact of human nature. I did chose to view the video, mostly so I could understand the controversy, and I can't say I would ever do it again. I don't enjoy seeing human suffering. But, like the victim's family who must view the execution of the criminal responsible for their loss, I understand the need of Saddam's victims to bear witness to his death.

Proud: That is the first word that popped in my head, voyeurs. It is sick, he was a human, you gain nothing by stooping to a level that is far below standards for moral behavior. Which, yes, I would put "getting joy out of watching a human slowly die" an immoral trait.

I think it would be ghoulish to watch it. All human beings should be treated with dignity, even those who have committed serious crimes. If those of us who do not commit criminal acts want to retain our own dignity and that of our society we should neither execute people nor display or watch their deaths on video.
